I'm a pretty openminded person when it comes to watches and I don't like the gatekeeping mindset that sometimes exist with watch collectors. There is one thing I will say though: If you can't appreciate a watch because it is cheap you can't truly be a watch enthusiast. Just look at this old Seiko 5-model. How can you not love it?

Let me preface that I own many inexpensive watches, most of them Seikos, or builds based on NHxx movements. But still, I don't appreciate because they are cheap, but because they deliver at a certain price point. There are many inexpensive watches that I don't want, but that is due to the fact that there are specific reasons why I wouldn't wear them, regardless of the price.
That being said: I can easily see why I like some more expensive watches. There are things you can do at that level that are not possible with entry-level watches. I would have no concerns buying a $300 case from German manufacturers, simply because the machining is that good. It would be dishonest for me to say that I couldn't appreciate that.
As far as gatekeeping is concerned, WC is probably one of the places in the watch community where you are least likely to find it.
Cheap doesn't mean bad. I own both high end and inexpensive both satisfy a want for my collection. Love pagani and breitling at the same time.
