Watches that have (surprising) overlap?

Cleaned some of my collection the other day and keep coming back to my BB58 and Explorer. Both great watches, both different backgrounds and what they aim to portray… but I feel there is a lot of similarities here amongst the obvious differences. Black dials, time only, moderately sized… except I won’t get my arm cut off for one currently and one brings me more joy than the other  😅🆘

Got me thinking… what other watches do you feel have a lot of similarities when on paper they really shouldn’t? Of course this is just my opinion after looking at them side by side, feel free to disagree but no need to spread fire… heres a banana 🍌

Beautiful watches.  Which one of the two do you prefer?  And why?

I feel like every single watch in my collection is a beautiful, unique, little snowflake.  Yet, every time I get a new one and show my wife, she says, "Oh, so...  you got another...  watch?"

Me:  But, baby, this one is a pure, time-only, vintage-inspired diver.  Notice the aluminum bezel, just like in period!

Wife:  Oh...  but, it's blue like the other one, yeah?

Me:  You know what?  Never mind!

First, both are sweet watches.

Hot take: The design language of Rolex and Tudor makes a lot of their watches look, well…, a bit redundant.

Watch geek take: Yes… but you know some Submariners have RED TEXT…

Just enjoy. It’s about the small differences at the end of the day.

Haha I know what you mean, luckily my fiancée understands the hobby a bit and why I like different pieces. She is probably in the market for a Breitling Chronomat at some stage.

Between these two, the BB58 is my choice. Not that one is necessarily better than the other as I don’t like using terms like ‘better’ and ‘best’ but it’s the one I have more meaning attached to and one that gets more wrist time it seems. 😃

Beautiful! Currently on the hunt for an Explorer (at retail) 😅 Think these two watches plus a dress watch might be the perfect 3-watch collection. Yes, there’s some degree of overlap between the BB58 and Explorer, but much of this is what makes both incredibly versatile.
