Today I was finishing a service on a AS 1903 movement.
I had finished assembling the balance wheel and everything was fine. The watch was ticking as expected but suddenly I started to hear a different noise and saw the pallet fork flickering irregularly.
I removed the balance wheel, the pallet cock and pallet fork and when inspecting the pallet fork I realized that there was something wrong with the jewels. See below that the light was reflecting differently on each jewel. 😮
By rotating the pallet fork around its major axis we can see what's wrong. 😕
and
I've never worked with shellac and I don't know if I could realign the jewell that's coming loose. 😢
At least two movements I've seen in the AS 1903 "manual". AS 1903 and AS 1913 both use AS 1902 as a base and therefore have the same pallet fork.
My questions:
Does anyone know if other simple/modern movements have the same type of pallet fork as this AS 1903 and which would be compatible?
Would anyone happen to have an pallet fork or a donor AS 1902/1903/1913 left in the drawers? 😀
