Anybody has any experience with this GS GMT Spring Drive?

Tried this Grand Seiko in the local AD several months back but never pulled the tigger since I thought it was too bulky.  I read some of GS related postings on GMT watches elsewhere that mentioned they are actually quite light and comfortable to wear day to day...   Anyone has any experience with this particular watch ?

Not to be rude but I would consider a smaller watch for your wrist size. Good luck

Do you like it? Go for it. The size doesn’t look tacky at all, you wear it well, it just displays the face in more glory. And with a cuffed shirt, even better. It’s not an ‘oversized’ watch, which is a different design choice. Presumably the seconds hand is proportionally longer? In which case it will sweep the face with even more grace.

Hello, sir!  You are a refined gentleman with good taste...  apparently, because you like a watch that I like!  😜

Here are some of my rambling thoughts:

  • The watch is quite thick at 14.7mm; however, what's wonderful about GS is that GS watches are designed by slim wristed-Asians for slim-wristed Asians.  Per the photo below, you can see that the mid-case curves and slopes to better conceal that thickness, and the lugs curve downward to better hug your wrist.  Moreover, the case back is conical and tapers such that the portion resting against your wrist is smaller than the 40.5mm diameter face of the watch, yet further making it wear smaller

  • The bracelet clasp is also small and nicely curved, again helping the watch to wear smaller.  However, the absolute best way to get the watch bulk reduced is to simply switch to a strap.  GS bracelets have solid end links.  So, even though the lug-to-lug measurement is only 48.7mm, the end links cause the watch to wear larger on the wrist.  Switching to a strap immediately solves that issue, and allows the watch to sit more comfortably on slender wrists.  And, as an added bonus, I'm of the opinion that GS watches look far better on straps than bracelet.  The strap will also reduce weight

I love it, and it wears very comfortably for me!

Good luck!

Of course!

The strap was custom made for me by fellow forum member @Jericho.  It is the favorite of all my straps, because it is truly unique - and I have a Genteel Handmade alligator and several crocodile straps, etc., etc.

Here is a post with extensive details on the strap if you're interested:

This will most likely be my next watch. I’ve put it on at my local AD at least 3-4x. My wrist is 6.75” and it wears very comfortably. It looks so much better irl than in the photos due to how the batons play with the light. But I think I’m leaning towards the 255 (blue) or 253 (black) variants over the 257.
