Help on dealing with a buyer claim on Ebay - Kleianzeigen

It finally happened. After more than 15 years buing and selling used stuff on ebay, forums and social media I got a message from a buyer that he found an issue with a swatch irony body soul i sold to him that was not described in the add. It is a "crack" as he describes it on the case back/crystal which I would describe as deep scratch.

He want some money back or to return the watch. Has not yet said anything about claim.

The transaction was made via ebay with the buyer protection. He paid 90€ from which i received around 87€ (-buyer protection fee). 5,5€ costed tje shipping so 81,5 is what i got.

He received the watch on the 18th if i remeber correct but only today he decided to send me a message. That I found weird.

Anyway in a spirit of good faith I apologized for the not so detailed description and offered him 50% discount on the watches I currenly have for sale or 3 straps as a compensation.

He replied by saying he is not interested and suggest to return to him 50% of what he paid which is ridiculus.

I have not responded yet. I am just trying to decide if it is worth the time and efford going into paypal duspute and such..

Any suggestions???

Buy the seller is always our recommendation when buying used.

Protect your rating is my advice.

I'd just give him the 50% off and move on.

·

Give him his money back and get you the watch back, you put it again in Ebay with a small discount informing the buyer of all the details, this is what happened to me in "Mercado Libre" with a Tag Heuer

Since he has asked you to take the watch back then you should do.

I'm not suggesting it was intentional so don't flame me, but, you failed to describe the item correctly.

The small cost of return postage will be a reminder to you to cover all the angles when selling on eBay. And, as UnholiestJedi advised, protect your seller rating.

Take the watch back and put it up for sale again starting at 120€ to make up for the loss? 🤔

I would just offer to take the watch back there are a few out there that try this old trick. If you offer to have the watch back no questions asked you keep good faith as a seller and any dispute eBay will side with you as you have offered a return you will get the watch back and keep your good name and if they are just trying it on and want the watch they will just disappear

I would like to thank all of you fellow Crunchers for the help and suggestions. I really appreciate it. This incident helped me learn a lot and think deeply on a couple of things. The issue is now resolved. We reach an agreement with the buyer after some back and forth an a couple of offers to resolve the issue from my side.

I just wanted ro clarify that the incident did not happen to Ebay, rather in Ebay-Kleinanzeigen which exists in Germany and Austria (I am not sure if it is also available in other nearby german speaking countries). It works a bit differently to ebay, putting way more focus on private-private exchanges and also the evaluation system works differently. Does not have numerical scores and there is a common set of attributes to summarize a score of a participant both as a buyer and seller. Anyway, bottom line is that 1) I should have never offered the option of a normal paypal transacation rather than friends and family. 2) I should have been wqy more detailed in my description avoiding inaccuracies, 3) I will think twice again in engaging both as a buyer and a seller to the vintage/old watch field which has been discribed by a lot of people in the community and by famous watch youtubers/influencers as a minefield.

Moving forward and enjoy the hobby. 💪🤞😊
