Seiko Field Watch

This watch is what I would consider a good ol' fashioned watch.

It's like a warm bowl of potato soup; it's simple. Hearty.

And between the brushed case, sunburst background, and reflective indices, it holds enough visual appeal to satisfy my need for some flair outside of pure utility.

This is the 38mm version. I also had the 36mm variant, but because it shares the same case height I found it to be too "stumpy" compared to this one.

Edit Reality is that it is 39.4mm. I just think it wears like a 38mm.

This watch is a great option for anyone looking for "just a watch kind of watch" if that makes any kind of sense. When I envision "steel watch", this is the kind of thing I see and that's just fine with me.

I have always liked this particular model 5. I know exactly what you mean about a watch watch. This one (for me) has JUST the right amount of bling to make it extra special, but also good for almost every type of occasion. My problem is there are about 6 Seiko 5's that I like.

Every time I see this watch or others in the 5 range I think how nice it would look without the date complication.

38mm? As far as I knew this model was 40 or 36. 🤔

·

this is 39.4, and i reckon this one is stubbier?

39.4/13.2 = 2.98

36.4/12.5 = 2.91

by a smidgen.

seiko, they know what they do.

You're right, it is advertised at 40mm. I measure it at anywhere between 38.5 to 40 depending on where on the dial you take the measurement, but overall I find that it wears like a 38.

No worries, I was thinking it was a new model or something. You may want to watch where your putting the jaws of your calipers though. In your picture you’re measuring from the left side of the case to the right side of the bezel (the sliding jaw is sitting on top of the case, over the crown) Try shooting for the angle of 10 to 4.

them calipers need calibration. the ruler is at 40 (slightly past it i'd say). with a 48.1 L2L this wears true to size if not slightly larger. for me, this is too big for a field watch.

It does look that way doesn’t it? lol They May actually be ok. The numerals are on the left side of the “long line” that indicates the exact measurement so it seems to be hitting 40 sooner. But the edge of the slider is 3 lines last 35 so it’s about right.

I think you're confusing the 40 at the 35mm position. It's just the angle of where the camera is capturing the image but the digital reading is correct with actual.

At 10 to 4 it comes to 39.4

The outside watches are also 39'ers (pretty much) but I think they give a good reference to how I was saying the Seiko wears like a 38mm

(Ultimately this might end up making a mountain out of a literal c*nt hair🤣🤣🤣)

Be careful - don't get too deep into the old school Seiko 5s (the little ones with the 7s26). I guessing you'll like more than 6.

Seiko can put an awesome dial on every watch they make, regardless of price.
