Getting a Rhythm - dNg Design Journal Ch. 12

Hi! If you’re new here, I like to sketch watch designs for fun. Some work, some don’t, all of them are unrealistic. Tell me what you think regardless!

Personal Speil

As I said before, I don’t like to put my passions and hobbies on a rigid schedule. However, I really feel like my last Design Journal chapter really helped to motivate to get back into drawing some designs again.

I’ve started to remake some of my older designs, as well as putting them into colour. Even just the tiniest splash of colour adds so much to the watch design - makes it feel a little more alive.

Granted, my graphic design skills are still very wanting, but maybe when I have the time later in the year I will begin to improve more - learn to start sketching the case back details, which will either be movements or engravings.

This time around, I thought I would showcase my field-oriented designs as opposed to the dressier ones I posted prior. Always good to have a bit of variety!

Chronotron: Revision 2

Image

This was the first timepiece I designed when I got my new laptop, a Lenovo 16” Something-or-other. I use Autodesk Sketchbook for all of my sketches - it has pretty much everything I need.

In this revision, I removed the upper sub-second dial as well as the entire chronograph complication in favour of a rotating mission-timer bezel.

Design Cues:

-Heuer Monte-Carlo Rally Instrument

-Sinn 104

-Sinn EZM 1

Targeteer: Revision 4

The Targeteer in colour. It’s surreal to see - probably one of my favourite designs still to this day, and it was my first design I ever drew. Not much to say, other than the revised 24-hour indicator in the middle, which can perhaps be converted to a GMT indicator.

Design Cues:

-Lanco Barracuda

-H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner

-Tudor Black Bay 58

As always, please tell me what you think, what could be improved, and what you would like to see. Any feedback is good feedback, and I would love to hear from all of you

I'd buy the mission timer. I have this weird attraction to countdown inserts lol.

I’ve gotten a recent attraction to them lately - I love the Sinn!
