Design 43 + a weird concept

Was mainly inspired by the Heuer De Luxe for this one, as well as the old style Seikos with the red 60sec marking.

Also sketched this the other day while bored. It’s kind of a mix of the old Nike Triax and the Bulgari Serpenti Tubogas. I called them “Entropie” and “Entropie Sporto”.

Well done even number indices layout with an interesting lume layout. The kerning on the 10 and 12 seems a bit wide. The lug width is noticeably narrower in proportion to the case diameter than usual. I'm curious if the almost impossibly dainty crowns are a deliberate choice, as (coming from a fan of narrow and petite crowns) they look like a very impractical size for actual use.

The red "railroad tie" or whatever it's called at 12 o'clock is superb. Subtle and ties in with the red date. Being practical again, I suspect the lugs would need to be a tad longer and the date aperture a bit more square to fit the double digit dates ( yes, the numbers tend to shrink, but still...). And come on, display the date as a 6!

I'm not fully grasping the sketches, but I do like the handset.

Yeah, the font that I used for some reason made the numeral spacing really weird and wide. Lugs and crown are definitely way too narrow and small, considering the size of the watch, so I have to keep in mind how much I zoom in with regards to when I draw them.

As for the date - I always make it the 8th because it’s symmetrical, but now in hindsight I should’ve done that for the sake of consistency with the numerals 😅

I’m glad you like the lume, red date and railroad tie! I’m trying to get into little design quirks that add character to the overall design, as much of the stuff that I’ve drawn can feel a little soulless. They definitely require a bit more personality to shine through so I’d like to explore that a bit more in my sketches.

The handset on the Entropie is really nice. I think the “Feynman-style” hands fit in with the surrealist “Crash-meets-Tubogas-meets-Triax-meets-Berneron-meets-Dali” vibe I was going for. I wanted to make something both stupid and fun, and I really like esoteric and campy design, so I felt it was kind of exemplified in here. Definitely needs refining though!

On a personal note, it really means a lot that you’re giving feedback on like 90% of my designs - I really appreciate it! Though I’m no closer to making any of these a reality, it really does help when I get consistent feedback on how to improve my design and let my creativity be at the forefront rather than just deriving from already existing models.

Don't encourage me! On second look, a comment and a question. This is very subtle but the outer edge seems to have a slight kink where it changes from a curve to a straighter line. This is tricky stuff that is beyond my capability, but purely geometric shapes with consistent radii and tangent straight lines tend to be clunky in dynamic 3D and these curves are really way more blended and complex than one realizes.

I'm assuming there is a stepped bezel where the inner ring is more raised? If so, I approve and feel this should be done more. It makes the watch visually slimmer and helps cuff slide over the watch a bite more easily.

I’m also not very good with 3D imagery, so I was hoping to convey the appearance of a stepped bezel in the 2D space through colour alone. I’m glad you caught it!
