Must be something to do with how those old Omega boxes were made. I recently purchased a neo-vintage (late 90's) Seamaster and part of the reason I choose it over other examples (albiet a small part) was the box and papers where in immaculate condition. Really strange how so many of those boxes in particular end up in that state though...
I agree the age of the company doesn’t reflect the quality of watches they produce; its more the stature of the company at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century and shortly thereafter (big Swiss outfit supplying watches for armed forces). I feel if they played their cards right they could’ve been a very different company than what we see today. And yes you could say Timex are older than Rolex but they always have been regarded as budget pieces. Rotary (at least I feel) had an ambiguity about them which they could’ve played to their advantage.
That’s crazy when you think they predate Rolex. I personally think the brand is partly responsible for my interest in watches. I remember years ago buying my father a Rotary Chronospeed for Christmas and thinking it was a fortune. Little did I know the watch it was homaging was over 30x the price. So in that respect I suppose they get people started on this path.
I also own a GMT from their Les Originales line. These seem to be higher tier Swiss made pieces and to my knowledge, an original design.
