Useless complication

Short post, but I have gone down the rabbit hole on moon phase complications. Since I love Seikos, I can see that being something I look for this summer while in Japan.

I bought this one about a year ago. It’s a quartz moonphase from Japan. Decent watch and pretty inexpensive if that’s what you want.

Def not a useless complication! How else would someone know when to prepare for this

Useless? Perhaps. But done well it can be beautiful.

When I first became serious about collecting watches as opposed to being a guy who just enjoyed having a watch on my wrist, moonphase complications were highly sought after but also very challenging to find during the late 80s and early 90s unless you could pay big boy dollars for PP, AP, Brequet, Blancpain or fly to Europe to source any number of small Swiss brands on life support during the quartz crisis that still produced watches that featured the purely romantic, charming feature. Of course there was vintage but good models were also in high demand not cheap. However Seiko produced a few inexpensive quartz models that scratched the itch, I purchased more than one but ruthlessly discarded the cheap watches after picking up a few Swiss moonphases.
