Hate the dial? Print a new one! No, seriously.

So listen, I have a problem.  I can't leave anything the hell alone.  The monstrosity you see before you started life as a Tauchmeister, some "German" brand that sells a few 1000m dive watches on Amazon.  Great quality for price if you can get over the look.  This example came with... less of a dial and more of a simulation of staring directly into the core of a nuclear detonation.  Fantastic lume.  Problem was it was printed crooked by about 2 degrees, so little that the watchmaker I took it to for advice a few years ago insisted I was crazy; he must have been right about the crazy because every few months I'd wake up in a cold sweat with some new hairbrained scheme to try and remedy the issue.  For some time I had a donor dial in it from an old Wenger, but I missed being able to read the GMT hand easily.  Enter my inkjet printer.  I'd been doing dial mock ups for months working on a separate project, and would occasionally print examples just to get an idea of real world proportions.  I loved the idea of there being a polar dial in this watch and tying together aspects of my ongoing Antarctic explorer fantasy, and it hit me that it wouldn't hurt to try and just print the dial I wanted.  I'll let you decide whether this was a mistake or not, but for the moment I'm fairly happy!  It took several iterations to create a version that didn't foul the GMT hand (there's like 2 thou of space between the hand and a normal dial) but in your case, if you have a sharp knife, some way to make precise holes - which in my case was a set of broaches - and a good inkjet printer that's ideally better than mine, this might be worth a try!  I'm well aware that there are better ways to do something like this, but I wanted it done right then and there, and it came out well enough that I'm happy.

The finished article, note the utter genius that is my GMT scale

An early attempt, with the previous dial waiting in the wings.  Initially I was silly enough to think I could literally just put a piece of paper over the dial and call it a day... I ended up removing the applique and sanding down the old dial for a base.  I'm also proud of the arrows by the date window which mean I'll never accidentally move the GMT hand again.

And as you can clearly see, mine too! 😂

Excellent. Even if there are minor imperfections, the fact that it is uniquely yours makes it well worth it.
