Well, it still is a plastic watch. But it's a plastic watch with an automatic movement in it. It's also more expensive so it definitely isn't amazing but it isn't a gimmick either.
It is a gimmick. It utilizes the system 51 movement which usually lasts 2-5 years depending on usage. The case is hermetically (sp?) sealed meaning you can’t open it, and besides the movement isn’t serviceable either.
Blancpain (probably spelled that wrong too) is big on ocean conservation, and these are throwaway watches. Isn’t that counterproductive to the aims?

Gimmick that is somehow working. Even with the restrictive availability.
Both.

Whatever it is throwaway is the description that will follow them.

I have mixed feelings, it's definitely a step up while still being an expensive gimmick.
Bit of both, similarly to the Moonswatch. But it is cheap and unique so I’d happily own one.
Plastic unreliable watch that cannot be serviced. Wasteful landfill.
Plastic gimmick, will definitely get one . 😍
