NWA: Lorier Hyperiin s. II just arrived!

I now see why alot of watchcrunchers have several Loriers. They’re really quite lovely to own 😁

What really got me into Lorier was their muted pepsi colored bezel. The darker red and blue tones, matched with a black dial and gilt markers and hands was the perfect combination I’ve been looking for.

Lorier also supplied me with extra links when I asked them if it would fit my 8.5 inch wrist. And its 39mm size fits well on my big wrist too! I guess the long-ish looking lugs helped.

Anyway, I really love the watch. The bracelet really has that vintage jangly feel too like your usual vintage watches pre-2000s. Jangly but solid still. Bezel action is really tight too. Practically no backplay and the turns and clicks are precise and sure.

This watch is a solid 9/10 for me. The only thing keeping me from giving it a perfect score is the lack of toolless microadjust but that’s just part of the compromised made to keep it at that goldilocks price I guess.

PS: to all the lume lovers the lume is great! Bright and lasts quite a long time.

Beautiful watch. Congratulations on your new acquisition!

Love how they have the appearance of bakelite old school with the acrylic and bezels, but the lume game is on point to.

If they ever come up with a toolless micro adjust, or maybe use Nodus' fantastic NodeX....👀🤏🏻🤯.

As @solidyetti said, that Bakelite look, with muted colors as you mentioned was definitely one of my primary draws to this model 🍻

So I’ll start by saying each to their own… Buuuut

For Lorier fans, acrylic is preferred.

Nobody really peferes mineral crystal, it simply means you cut corners vs. sapphire.

I’ve chatted with the Lorier owners, and it’s actually more difficult for them to get acrylic to work (they have this detailed on their site as well). It’s a design choice to give that vintage look. And there are aesthetic and material benefits of acrylic > sapphire. So they didn’t just “cheap” on a sapphire.

I know of no benefit of mineral crystal over sapphire (except for cost).

·

Hey you do you bud 🫡

But I literally bought this for the acrylic. If Seiko made an acrylic work, that’s a different story.

If Lorier had mineral crystal, I likely wouldn’t buy them. Outside of Vintage and Grand Seiko, cheaper seikos have no appeal to me.

So it’s Acrylic > Sapphire > Mineral Crystal

The Lorier Hyperion bezel colorways are so vintage - pure class IMO. Enjoy!

·

I’m not hating… I’m purposely calling a spade a spade ✌️

Also mineral/Hardlex or whatever marketing term you use IS harder than acrylic/plastic. Nobody is denying that 🙄

All I said is that some prefer Acrylic (for it’s warmth and other qualities). We all know it scratches easier than “Hardlex”.

·

I’m generalizing

  • Mineral Crystal, Hardlex, Quartz, Glass are all basically Silicon.

  • Sapphire (even man made) is Aluminum Oxide and only Diamond has a higher hardness (in nature).

  • Acrylic is basically a type of plastic polymer.

I maybe off here and there, but basically

·

Tbh, I’m not a fan of Hardlex or mineral either. As @sam_kula said, most Lorier buyers choose Lorier because we love the propertird acrylic provides. I would also choose acrylic over mineral as well. I’ve sadly chunked sapphire already and its due to this that I like acrylic. Plus, its inherent anti reflective properties and overall warmer tones make the dial beautiful. Sure, in the hardness scale its softer but that means it wont shatter. Hardlex to me is not the compromise I want in non sapphire or non acrylic crystal.

But hey, Seiko does what Seiko wants. Same with Citizen and Orient in their entry level offerings as well. Cheers mate and enjoy the day!

Can’t tell if you’re trolling 🤣(apologies if you’re legit) I just woke up.

If was fun regardless tho! 🤘

I have two Lorier watches and prefer the look of acrylic on this style of watch. Yeah it scratches, but a little polywatch and it’s gone. For what it’s worth, Omega uses acrylic too 🤷‍♂️

·

Idk, I have a bunch of Seikos. They all have hardlex and I love them. 🤷‍♂️ I guess one difference with Lorier is that the acrylic actual adds to the feel of the watch. It makes the dial warm, the distortion is great, and it’s very anti reflective.

Allegedly Lorier is looking into a tool-less Micro adjust clasp
