Steel Bezel = Easy Scratch ?

Do you have experience with Steel Bezels? Are they easily scratched ?

Following this thread it is a question I have aswell 🤝🏻

·

Polished steel bezels tend to scratch up more(more visible). If the bezel is a solid piece and sloped like the one on the alpinist, i think it would ding up. However if it is a bezel like coin edge or skx style, I think the bezel protects the bezel insert and you won't see many scratches on the insert itself.

·

All depends on how you treat it, but all of mine have held up pretty well. Yes, unlike ceramic, it will reflect the smaller hits it takes, but I would not say it is easily scratched. IMO, it is still better than a traditional polished bezel.

·

It does, but not much to be honest. Keep in mind that these watches are adventure, sports oriented, so they might be used in more rough environments where small hits might happen. I have experienced four of these watches, two with fixed steel bezels (Aviera and CW Sealander) two with rotating ones (Airmans). Each one of them have received a couple of marks but are really hard to notice. The first Airman had more as was second hand, but somehow those small scratches added some character in that type of watch. Now I have one Glycine Airman and the Aviera. The Aviera is new and already have made a very small mark I can't almost notice. All the bezels are brushed.

Watches that have steel bezels are meant to be scratched.

Brushed surface resist scratches better than polished. You can easily buff out the scratches with 3M scouring pad.

My Seiko Alpinist with polished bezel is a scratch magnet, literaly if you look it the wrong way it leaves a mark. On other side brushed BB Pro is pefectly fine despite banging some door frames already.

yes, they will scratch it hasnt stopped me from buys them..watches get scratches. In my experience the polished bexel's are easier to scratch or notice the scratch. I was looking for a photo om one of my Panerai Luminor Gmt I guess i dont have a photo on file. Anyway, it is polished and I put a big ol scratch on it but it iis what it is. JMO

This is the style I’m considering. So, you say that, becuase it’s brushed, it’s harder to scratch ?

I gues it’s better to get used to the idea that they will scratch. But I don’t like the idea if it’s also taking off the paint of the numbers and lines

Not necessarily. I don't know what kind of metal diff brands use but in general polished surfaces are more scratch visible. In any case they will all get scratches and you just need to accept that.
