The earlier image seems to be a render. I wonder if that design element just didn't make it to production? I have had watches before that didn't exactly match the promotional images (early production Oris diver 65). It kinda drove me crazy. I think that they send out computer renders for promotional purposes, then when the final product is being put into production sometimes they have to jettison a few details in order to meet cost. It's too late to change the images in some cases as there may not be a lot of communication between the marketers and the product development groups. It's frankly a wonder anything gets accomplished at all.
commented onWhat attire would you/do you pair with the Cartier Santos Medium·
I think all men's Cartiers are cool design objects because they connect all of these male materials stereotypes with a very old-money/high-luxury attitude. The exposed steel, tank treads, and exposed screws combined with the rugged looking bridle leathers contrasted against the old-world dial designs... 👌. When you wear one you look masculine and refined and rich all at once. These are watches I can imagine a young JFK wearing with boat shoes, khakis, and a white oxford. Classic and waspy. Dirty up the look with exposed tattos and a leather bracelet. I love that sh*t.
I would instead go to a Cartier boutique and try one on. I did this recently and it turned out that I love the Santos medium WAY more than I thought I would from looking at pictures. The subtleties that only become apparent when you see a watch in real life and try it on are for realz. Also, it will help you decide what size is right for you. I don't think you can accomplish the same thing by getting a similar watch and wearing it around. If you want to see if the style suits you, I would look up people who wear the Santos and see how they are styling it. If you see any overlap between their style and yours, then you are probably good.
