How do you get your wristshots with mobile phones?

Hello crunchers☀️I sometimes see really good wristshots, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to capture the same clarity. I'm using an iPhone 14. Do you have any special methods or settings for taking wristshots? Thanks in advance🙏🔥

Great question!!!

It's not easy. It's a matter of practise makes average 😅. Use any of the features on the phone and keep trying. I have a basic samsung a15 and take some ok pics. I'm sure there are others here who know a hell of a lot more.

Good luck 👍

Not esay indeed, makes it look bigger.

I have two phones. iPhone 14 regular and I think a 13 Pro version. The regular one doesn’t do well with closeups.

I use an iPhone 15 pro. I use the 2x or 3x zoom and keep it at a distance where the background is slightly blurred. And I take my pictures in good natural lighting (unless I’m taking a lume shot). It’s all about technique and practise. You’ll figure it out and get some really decent pics with your iPhone 14 camera 👌🏻👍🏻

I am by no means even close to an expert, and there are many, Many, MANY great and talented photogs on here.

Biggest thing I've learned has been dipping my toes into traditional photography.

That has helped me to get some phone pics that I like. Granted this has also meant I've learned that as a beginner, camera phones suck.

I'd much rather use my Fujifilm or Ricoh, but I can't really carry them day to day.

So I use the portrait mode for some forced bokeh and to help with framing, then "zoom with my feet" to frame the shot, or force a certain oerspective. I primarily use prime lenses or fixed lens cameras so I'm more comfortable with "zooming with my feet". YMMV. I'm sure there are waaaay better peeps out there who can give better advice 😂.

Here's some of my favorite ones I've taken, some are SOOC, others I did play with filters and over/under exposure, because why not.

(Filters are nowhere as good as the Fuji/Ricoh film recipes. I don't play with Lightroom, ain't got the time, hence why I like systems that trend to decent SOOC).

Archaic iPhone 6s, light from a white shaded lamp with a 60 watt bulb against a painted white wall. Minimal editing done w/ the ancient phone. I went to the KISS school of photography once all my film camera learnin' became irrelevant.

I just got a lens for micro shot and wide angle. Didn’t try yet. Also there’s some great apps to help modify pictures

I'd give tips but I'm not fully confident that my watch shots are any better. I do think offset lighting plays a large part in showcasing the visual nuances of a watch that are hard to portray through a screen. Using your phone's built in photo editor also helps as you can increase the clarity and highlights of the case material.

Playing with the Lighting on the iPhone Camera Screen does a lot for my pictures actually

Settings, Accessibility, Voice Control, Commands, Custom, Create New Command, Action, Run Custom Gesture, then record a touch gesture where the shutter button is.

I call my custom command “snap it” so when voice control is on, I can take hands free photos. This allows you to get nice angles without worrying about the being able to push the shutter button. Also, if you have shaky hands, use the Live Photo feature and the app will pick a sharp frame.

Wipe the lens off before taking pictures

The distance you're phone is away from you wrist has a huge impact on how large the watch appears on your wrist.

Both of these photos are of the exact same watch, wrist, and the same phone. The only difference is about a foot and a half of distance between the phone and the watch. One uses zoom, the other is just physically close.

What is the one taken with the zoom ?

The right side. You can try this yourself. Take a photo as close as you can get your camera with no zoom, then use the zoom and hold the camera back by your shoulder (or have someone else take it).
