Tales from the Paddling Pool - Part Five

Phew! What a scorcher!

I've just woke up after my late afternoon nap after being in the paddling pool ALL DAY wearing the Addiesdive Hulk.

Image

I don't know how early I started because I wasn't taking pictures at first. I was just going to have a normal day without ever thinking of writing a post.

Image

As you can see, I didn't even have the ghost of Bob Marley haunting me this time. It was just a day of hiding from the what must have been 90 degree heat, doing nothing but scoop the floating grass clippings out of the pool, and sitting looking at my watch. It was glorious!

I took pictures occasionally, but I didn't really go out of my way to do it this time. Most of them were too poorly framed or "samey" to use, and I don't think you care about my lunchtime pizza.

Image

I have to save my strength for @DeeperRed's Scavenger Hunt anyway, and if you aren't part of it yet, you should look it up and be part of it, because "It's all for chariddy, mate!" (And you know I'm going to get hate and blocks again for mentioning yet another iconic comedy sketch which nobody outside of the UK understands!)

Image

Occasionally during the afternoon, I was trying to emulate the pose of the Mr Jones "Perfectly Useless Afternoon" watch (or at least the AliExpress clone that I was informed of last night) because I really want one and it's ingrained in my mind now, even though I couldn't remember what that pose actually was. I also don't have a big inflatable ring (Oo-er, missus!) to float on.

Image

Obviously I have the duck, but it's black rather than yellow. Darth Duck (as I call him) was originally a painted Mallard decoy, but I've had him for over 20 years, and he's turned to the dark side.

Image

In case you wondered, yes, I had my state-of-the-art entertainment system set up again to annoy me and the neighbours all day. By 3pm, I was almost as brain dead as the local DJs though after listening to their drivel and appalling music choices. They didn't even play any Aqua or the Cheeky Girls!!! 😢

Image

There was a highlight of half a dozen hits from 1981 for a quiz they did at one point, and of course I guessed the year correctly but couldn't be bothered to phone in to win whatever it was that I didn't want in the first place.

Anyway, that's it. Proof again that the Addiesdive is actually water resistant. I had more doubts about it than any other watch I've ever bought from AliExpress due to the caseback not being screwed down properly when I received it, but after using a squeezy yellow ball, everything was as tight as I am.

Oh yeah, before I go, I just bought a Swatch. No, not the SwatchPain. 🙄

Image

I want the Indian Ocean one, but we all know that none of us who aren't members of an exclusive club (or who want to give thousands of Pounds to scalpers) are ever going to get our hands on one of those for at least a year.

Image

I bought the Swatch "Sailor's Joy" (from 1993) from a seller on eBay, you know, because I've been in the paddling pool so much that I must be a mermaid now. I blame the icy cold water. 😜

I also didn't have a Swatch Scuba in my collection, and that's the one which everybody will be chasing now, albeit with BlancPain on the dial and some horribly unserviceable Sistem51 mechanical movement inside it rather than the quartz I wanted it to be.

Personally, I'd rather have a mermaid on my wrist, but wouldn't we all? 😉

There I am at work, no aircon, working in 30c (sorry for the "c" Dean) while some of the WC community are scoffing pizza and keeping cool in the pool, to say I am jealous is an understatement ! Being a 1981 quiz I can probably answer the questions without knowing them so.....Tainted Love...…Stand and Deliver...…Vienna and hopefully Shakin Stevens. I have deliberately mentally blocked all SwatchPain info that I can. At the moment I am having a cat/furball equivalent with Swatch. As a lowly underpaid and overworked civil servant a paddling pool is a dream so if the weather holds up until Saturday I will be standing in a bucket, one foot at a time of course, in a old pair of Speedos, incidentally from 1981. I will look like a very sick elephant. I also overcame my current Swatch phobia to rather admire the mermaid watch, now that's is a proper watch, almost on par with Mr Jones !

You just cannot beat the ethereal pairing of beer & pork Scratchings 👌🏻

Superman has Kryptonite, mine is Newky Brown, I love the stuff (if ice cold) but after a very modest amount I then howl at the moon. Last time I partook the stuff I then wrestled a Christmas tree because "it was looking at me funny". Special Brew, Thunderbird Wine, you name it, pah! easy peasy, Newky Brown and its Dr Jekyll time. Pork scratchings as my fillings will attest to are wonderful. Just thought perhaps they are the antidote to the NB! Should I try ?

I also know how to order from the curry house. 😜

Great post. Sounds like an awesome day of doing nothing! Bonus points for the Hawaiian style pizza. Hopefully you had some beers to keep you company in that micro pool? 😜

·

I'm enjoying these posts quite a lot 😂 I will be hoping for more warm weather... for our sake.

I think you'll be getting more hate and blocks because of that ''pizza'' than the iconic sketch reference.

Always a great read!

We just finished a week of 100+ degrees and no paddling pool to lounge around in.

Like you said, I probably won't be seing a WhiteBread (BlancPain) anytime soon.

For those wondering what WhiteBread is... In French blanc is the colo(u)r white and pain is bread. So it's a literal translation of BlancPain... WhiteBread...

The door is that way ---?? Thank you, I'll see myself out.
