My Top Ten Sekonda Watches (So Far)

I was looking through my previous posts because I was sure I'd already done this one. I found my Casio and Skmei top tens, but somehow the Sekonda list has been lost in the aether (or whatever that is).

Anyway, here's another rather lazy post made up of pictures from my gallery over the last year (which is more for my benefit than yours) simply because I couldn't remember which Sekondas I still have, and obviously, with my birthday coming up soon, I've asked my wife for yet another one. 😉

The one which got away was the Sekonda/Raketa Moonphase which I wore exclusively in the '90s and sold for £3 on eBay in 2003. I was very stupid and thought it looked too small on me, which at only 34mm, it probably was.

The picture above is from https://sovietwatchstore.com/ and isn't actually my watch, but it's exactly the same model. I think their price is a little bit ridiculous for an originally £14.99 watch from H. Samuel, so they can keep it.

I've tried to get another, but the last one I saw was £5.99 for a deader on eBay and that was about 5 years ago. I'll find one eventually, along with a working Casio C-80 and an Advance Cosmic Wars watch to complete my nostalgia trip. Maybe.

Btw, I don't know if Sekonda is still the UK's number one watch brand. According to online statistics, Casio beat them on sales recently, but you shouldn't believe anything you read online.

It's very purple in real life. I had to edit this post and reupload a manipulated photo due to the amount of cat dander flakes on the dial. The new pic is much better.

Sekonda, seems a bit of a forgotten brand on here. I've had them for years, mainly as work watches cos they just keep going and so budget friendly. For the money great watches.

All for the price of a fancy burger and a pint (and you won't cry if you spill ketchup on it).

All really nice watches, I would be happy with any of them, in fact I do have one of them!

According to the internet, it's a 1575, but I think mine said 1581 on the caseback. I've put it away now so I'll have to check again tomorrow. Whatever it is, H. Samuel, F. Hinds, and a few others still sell it, but Argos don't anymore.

One of these strangest things about Sekonda is that they appear to be very coy about having a connection to the USSR or insistent that they’ve been a British brand, but all of their vintage watches are clearly rebranded Soviet watches, the brand’s name is in transliterated Russian, and they used Soviet movements. Looks more like a Soviet export brand that was later bought out from the Soviet or maybe later Russian government to me.

They also bought from China and Hong Kong during the same period, but yes, they were primarily dealing in Russian watches. A lot of them blatantly said USSR on the dials, of course, and their first LCD digital watches were Elektronika rebrands too.
