Rolex Submariner Review - Less is more?

The Rolex Submariner is easily one of the most recognisable watches the brand has ever produced. Since the "creation" of the Rolex Submariner, it has taken on different looks (and nicknames) while maintaining its original heritage. The Rolex Sub, no date, reference 124060 spots a black ceramic bezel, black dial and worn via an oyster bracelet. Many would be stuck in a dilemma between the Submariner Date and No-date. For me, less is more.

Housed within a stainless steel casing is the 3230 in-house calibre movement with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. On top of that, a -2/+2 seconds per day accuracy (COSC), bi-directional winding rotor, paramagnetic blue parachrom hairspring, and has a predicted service interval of approximately 10 years. It is only as recent as 2020 that Rolex gave the Submariner family a massive turnover, which included a new dimensions to the case and bracelet, of course the movement, perhaps the brand's attempt to play catch up with its competitors. Anti-magnetic strength of the calibre allows us to be rest assured when being surrounded by electrical appliances, since we don't have to worry about the accuracy being affected.

I've a small wrist size and I always thought anything bigger than 40mm case diameter will look over-sized on my wrist. I was wrong with the Rolex Submariner since the oyster bracelet is tapered, starting out at 21mm and slims down at the clasp. This provides great wearability and possibly one reason why Rolex's bracelet always seem to look more aesthetically pleasing as compared to other brands'. I also chose the no-date over the date because I wanted something symmetrical. Finally the long-lasting blue luminescenc of the indexes really is the icing on the cake.

Finally in terms of availability, I do feel the Submariner no-date is more attainable than the Submariner Date, not even going into the idea of getting a Kermit or Cookie Monster. 😂

Excellent choice of watch one of my favourites, glad your enjoying it

Love it. Actually, I would say this is less common as all the other models come with the date. So it is still iconic.

True, but some would argue that why settle for less when you can get the "as iconic" cyclops? Hahaha!

Less is definitely more! I really enjoy looking at it without the distraction of the cyclops. But i would really like it to have 2 liner text instead of 4, but that’s my opinion😬

Congratulations! I got one over a year ago and can’t see myself ever getting bored with it or selling it. Enjoy!
