First Dive Watch - 2.0

After careful consideration of yall’s opinions about dive watches, such as the Casio Duro, Glycine Combat Sub, and many more watches, I have a couple things to say.

  1. Thanks for the help! I have never seen an online Community rush towards me so quickly. In the first hour, my post had 25 comments on what watch and how to go about getting them.
  2. I have a small wrist. I believe I measured myself to be 6 and a half inches a few weeks ago. Many watches that I have heard about and researched are ABSOLUTE MASSIVE for my wrist. You never know what it is really like until you wear it, but a 50mm lug to lug is a tad bit to big for me.
  3. I am on a $400 budget.

p.s. - I have a dw5600. If you own one of these along with the watch you are suggesting, it would be a big help to say how it compares to the gshock in size.

Thank! 🙏

If you fancied an icon the Seiko SKX013 is 38mm, although price has rocketed since it was discontinued so would likely swallow all of your budget. Very healthy modding scene for later down the line if you fancy a change of look as well.

Have you looked at Vaer watches? They make a solar dive watch that is under your budget, and only has a 45mm lug to lug.

Edit: I see you're in the USA, the Vaer D4 series is assembled in, and shipped from the USA.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want a Vostok Amphibia as a first diver, it doesn't have the same "clicky" fun as most other divers and the lack of hacking seconds is an aquired taste, but I will say they fit my wrist incredibly well, which is barely larger than yours.  The Vaer mentioned above really is an excellent watch, if you're okay with fauxtina lume.  I'd consider too that seeing as the quality stuff you're looking at is built to last, your wrist won't be 6" forever!  It might be worth looking at lug to lug with the understanding that you can grow into a watch, so to speak.  I'm barely 22 and there are watches in my collection that fit better now than they did a year ago.  Best of luck man, the industry has a gaping hole in it when it comes to divers that actually fit human wrists...

I know right! I was disheartened hearing about how they used to be a dime a dozen, (In a good way), and are now $600 or so. I was on Chrono24 this morning and the prices are insane.

@benjamingardner08,

As @coaxial_thamuel pointed out, you might want to look at the Vostok Amphibia.  I recommend it, because several of the models/cases have a 46mm lug-to-lug.  It's one of the few dive watches that I've found that works on my 5.75"/14.5cm wrist.  (It would be much easier to find a watch if my wrist was as large as yours.)

Amphibias are also easy to modify.  I received this watch last week, and immediately changed the bezel and strap:

A few days later, I changed it again to get a different look:

The Amphibia is also very budget friendly.  The watch cost $63, new, including shipping.  The watch, bezels, straps (including several bezels and straps not shown here) cost less than $200 combined.

If you decide to get an Amphibia, you'll want to look at models starting with: 100, 120, 150, 420 or 710.  Those are the ones with the 46mm lug-to-lug.

There are multiple different case styles and face designs to choose from.  Lots of people have posted pictures on the forum of their Vostoks (typically modified … at least with a change of straps).

Agreed, although there are some kind hearted sellers/retailers who still see sense and have them at sub-$400 occasionally...you'd need the reflexes of a cat when you see one of those on sale mind you.
