Miyota 82s0 vs 821a Rotor Noise

A while back I bought a Laco watch with a Myota 821a movement. I loved the watch but that rotor movement was noticeably loud for me and I ended up returning it. I later read online others complaint about the noise as well. I recently found another Laco that I really like and it has a Myota 82s0 movement. Does anyone have any experience with that movement specifically if it's noisy?

Oh, yeah, Miyota 8000 series are well known for being noisy. Jody at JOMW uses the metaphor of noisy kittens, other metaphors I have heard include chatterbox and squeaky wheel. I have several different watches with Miyota 8000 series movements, and I personally don't think they are that loud, but they are noticeably louder than comparable Seiko, ETA, or Sellita movements. What is really amusing to me are the people who detest 8000 series movements yet sing the praises of the 9000 series movements, which are almost as loud. 🤣

Thanks for the input! Guess I'm staying away from this one and those movements.

They also have the stuttering second hand and are positively ancient. Aliexpress sell watches with that movement really cheap.

Three of the watches I have with 8000 series are Bulova watches, and they don't seem to stutter nearly as badly as the watches with this movement from AliExpress. The rotors are still louder than comparable movements.

82S0 is essentially the same as 8215 with a skeletonized dial and rotor. Plus a no date movement so you lack a ghost crown position. Miyota rotors are loud even in their 9 series movements but not as bad as the 8 series. The 8 series is quite loud even while on the wrist.

Loud rotors certainly. #myiota

I'm a big fan of the 9039. The rotor noise is damped enough that you don't notice it in the wrist. No ghost date, rock solid, more dependable than Sellita, better winding action. I have it in 3 of my watches and love it!

Don't buy Miyota 8000 series movement watches. They have a lot of weird problems. Rotor noise, stuttering seconds hand, irregular time keeping, loud movement etc. Miyota 9000 series has non of those problems and it's 4Hz too.
