The Ultimate Field Watch: Timex Expedition Review

This watch has an amazing story. My brother-in-law was searching online for a watch as one of his providers had given him vouchers. He was browsing through and I said, “what about the green one?” It sure stands out from the rest.

What is your ultimate field watch? For me it can be a Tudor Ranger, a Rolex Explorer or Explorer 2. But this one has a chronograph. Perhaps a Casio or Seiko?

The World we live in; we are indeed spoilt for choice. The key thing is to link our timepieces with a story and they will forever be etched in our memory or the one beholding it. To my family or even the small advice it can mean a whole lot. My bro in law ended up getting additional vouchers which was the icing on the cake.

Pros: classic field watch. Quartz movement, bright indigo and chronograph. The color is sticking and uncommon. The weight and durability is outstanding for its price. NATO strap on this is sturdy and well designed.

Cons: there aren’t any to be honest. When out in the field you want something reliable but not precious.

In my option go for this if you are outfield. It is bang for the buck. If anything happens you can adopt another. I love that this watch has a story to my family. As he passes it to his sons, we can simply look online for a similar model.

Timex are good design, durable and reliable. That’s what you need when outfield. Nothing that we’d miss if something were to happen to it. This watch comes with an automatic movement but does that defeat the purpose? Somehow out in the field you don’t want to tinker with a watch. You expect the battery to do its job and if anything happens; the next field trip requires to to bring or buy another.

Overall, let’s give Timex an ataboy! They have improved and designed great watches in the past few years.

To those going out camping and in the field; give this a go. Please take care, keep a look out and be careful of landslides. Cheers!

I've really liked the new Timex offerings I've seen lately. I think great practical watches in the affordable price category is an important step to draw in new people or keep folks in the watch world. Not everyone wants to spend gobs of money on what is essentially glorified jewelry.

I own this watch in all black and it gives me IWC vibes when I squint and look really fast while drunk in a foggy night. Apart from that I love it. I always go back to it. Bought my wife a timex at Target the other day. She loves it. Indiglo baby!!

Now that was well stated and funny!! 🙂 Certainly nothing wrong with the Timex. I do prefer a mechanical watch personally and they have some great choices..JMO

That’s a beauty! See, same thing, basically, haha. Today I’m wearing a top time from Breitling cerca 1960s, and I keep checking it’s keeping good time… But I feel like the loop has been looped…

Why only 3/5 for quality?

Why only 3/5 for quality?

Good question! A key thing that makes a Watch feel like quality.

attention to detail:

  • chronograph pushers I had to depress a few times before it started moving

  • The NATO strap is a bit flimsy (I like it comes with) but a leather strap in the box would be icing.

  • The overall finishing is great but comparing it to the brothers of the same class this made me rate it lower.

Just my thoughts.

I suppose it all comes down to cost ,by that I mean quality control and the quality of parts used ,that's why 2 watches aren't the same

I agree. Timex was my entry into the hobby and I’m wearing one right now. They fill a big void in starting this hobby

Have always had a soft spot for Timex. My fave of their Field Watch lineup is the Expedition Scout; particularly the brushed-looking case with black dial and white markings. This one has a some serious vintage field watch vibes goin' on :)

I really love timex expedition designs, and this one is one of my favorites for sure! A watch with a story behind it is even better!
