Exactly! Simple looks good and does what it's designed to do. That's the great thing about watches. As good at what it does as something that costs 10k!
I don't think it is a competition about how much something costs. Many people derive value through pricing and function. If you don't want to understand the differences between a $50 watch and $10 000 watch so be it. There are fundamental differences between the two. Each are trying to accomplish completely different things.
If you are honest you can't look at the timex movement and say it is equivalent to movement in even a basic seiko n95 in terms of fit and finish. Plastic gears aren't meant to last 40 years but that $50 wasn't meant to do that. Can the automatic takes vibrations and g shocks? No, that is something $100 000 cannot solve vs a $50 quartz. But that is not part of the care for that $10 000 watch. People buy $10 000 watch to stare at the sweeping hand, pull the crown out for feeling the winding function, take the watch off to stare at the case back mainspring and just maybe tell time periodically...
Preach! I have a Weekender too, great little watch. Actually, I don't have a watch that's worth more than £250, but I think all of my watches are beautiful.
I was always more of a Timex fan than Casio when I was a teenager and young adult. I still had 3-4 Timex’s in the last few years, but now I’ve been collection more expensive mechanical watches. Although I do like some of their new mechanical Timex Qs!

It’s all about the joy that it brings you. Like a bottle of wine… I like expensive and cheap!

Expensive watches doesn't have to look good.

I will quibble with the description of "elegant". A Weekender is many things, but I don't believe that elegant is one of them.
It is a handsome watch. I own one and enjoy it.
