Oris visit

If you ever get the chance, pay a visit to South Molton Street's Oris Boutique. The staff are beyond knowledgable, friendly and interested. Raff has been there for 3 events I've attended at Oris now and has always been happy to talk us through any new release that comes into the boutique. He also has a cool red Oris rectangle!

Image

The Aquis Pro 4000m. A titanium behemoth at 23.4mm thick. It's got a 55mm lug-to-lug and 49.5mm case diameter. All to go 4000 metres underwater.

Image

The ProPilot X Calibre 115. Now this is a titanium watch I can get behind. It's 44mm though, so not one my wrist can get underneath! You can wind your way manually to a 10-day power reserve behind a skeletonised dial.

Image

Big Crown Pointer Date x Cervo Volante collaboration. I'd not known this, but they're a company founded by two women (a biotechnology engineer and an experienced businesswoman) both with a background in nature protection and wildlife habitat management. They recycle waste deer skins into new products. In this case, the strap!

Image

Continuing with the sustainability theme we have the Aquis Bracenets. Dials are made from melted-down fishing nets that have been removed from the ocean. This keeps the nets safely away from animal habitats and makes the watch feel a bit more wholesome. Oris is a pioneer in sustainable watchmaking.

Image

Aquis Date 'Upcycle.' Dials made from recycled ocean plastic. The grey ceramic on the bezel insert is a super nice touch. Another great environmental message. The recycling process produces random patterns, meaning no two dials are the same. Essentially, each piece is unique.

Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy in steel. These bring colour to any collection. It's a really wearable 38mm case with a versatile steel bezel and bracelet. It's like the Oris 'Yachtmaster.' I love the bronze and green version, and this would be on par for me.

Image

Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph. 40mm and it fits me! I'm not a huge fan of modern chronographs due to case size and thickness. It's just never flattering on me. This I love though. Again it's always the watches you didn't know about or consider that weasel their way into your brain. I think this is a great option for anyone wanting a black dial chronograph that can take daily wear and the outdoors with ease.

The regular ProPilot X. I should have taken a photo of the laser and the Kermit dials! These are great in 39mm. The grey dial would be a fantastic budget option for a monochrome Bulgari Octo Finissimo. They're both titanium, integrated bracelet watches. This is still quite expensive at £3,650. At £4,040 the Tudor Pelagos 39 is eyeballing me pretty hard. It wears quite big, the Propilot X but it's a nice watch. Applied indices might make it pop a little more.

Now what if I did want an integrated bracelet watch and not a diver? A 36mm two-tone Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual Time. This is a fantastic way to track two time zones. It also comes with a date and power-reserve indicator. Not an Oris, this was brought along to the event. The edges are so sharp and the bracelet is like draping a scarf around your wrist.

I wish you had taken a picture of the laser. I went to my A.D. about 10 days ago, but they didn’t have one.

Looks like time well spent. I didn’t know they were there so will try to stop in if I am passing. I do like my 65 and would be keen to try on the Depth Gauge though I think I know it is too big for me - phew!

Not sure if you found this but I visited two watch showrooms recently (Grand Seiko and Christopher Ward) and I definitely felt a little bit of watch “fatigue” in that too many all at once makes it quite hard to focus and they all blend and blur. That’s why it’s good to take photos and remember what really “sang” to you.

I know perfumiers and whisky tasters can only sample so many before they need to step away, decompress and come back fresh - and I definitely felt a bit like that.

It’s honestly really hard to photograph! A phone camera absolutely wouldn’t have done it justice I’m sure. If it’s there next time I’ll take some clips!

Great way of putting it there, “watch fatigue.” I agree!

Any posts I’ve made since joining have been about 50% things from the past year and 50% right at the moment. It definitely helps to let those visits bed in and give your mind time to forget the things that are only good at a first impression.

I’d say I go to a boutique with the watch club I’m part of maybe once a month? I’ve only really visited boutiques to purchase or seriously plan a purchase a few times a year. I’m lucky to be able to visit without any pressure and lots of time with the club!

Yes - you are well placed for those opportunities. I’m out in the sticks and of late have rarely been to London or passed through a decent airport - those being the obvious opportunities for me to browse.

But I guess that means you have to be way more disciplined than me as you’re “tempted” more often.

Perhaps I can help with that… ☀️

Having recently gotten my first Oris I think I’m going to have to get more over time. Hope to make it to that shop one day.
