Seikomatic self dater, 1961, ticking smoothly👌🏻

I really do want a GS. Oh so much..

Yet sometimes I wear this vintage classic coolness, or one of my vintage King Seikos, and that obsession with GS calms down 😉

There was something of a jeweling arms race between major watch companies during the 60's. More jewels meant more bragging rights, prestige, etc.

Seiko got swept up in it as well. My Seikomatic Chronometer from 1965 also has 39 jewels. Several of the jewels served no actual purpose whatsoever though and are basically decorative. Possibly as many as 9, I think.

Thanks, I think it's actually J13060 which is a reference number, the movement is a cal 395.
