The Orient Bambino Cream Ver. 2 - What I like and dislike

Decided to get the Orient Bambino a month ago on a whim, after seeing the Hodinkee article and many good reviews on it. At $130, its very competitive. The hype is real, despite its flaws.

The leather strap gets criticized a lot. I actually really enjoy it, its broken in really nicely it feels like it floats on the wrist. My wife felt that it was very comfortable.

Very impressive finishing. I love the cream dial, thinness, blued hands and distortion on the crystal. I don't like that its mineral glass, but it hasnt gotten a scratch yet despite it being a daily. The movement is also incredibly accurate.

If Orient were ever to make a version of this with Arabic numbers, I would pick it up in a heartbeat. The movement is excellent.

That's usually referred to as Eastern Arabic.

Colleague of mine just picked up a Bambino, he’s happy with it. Can’t fault one of these; if you want a reasonably priced dress watch and don’t want to pay through the nose then this is a solid watch.

I'm afraid I don't know. I stole the image from somewhere. They're not easy to come by. But I have a Seiko.

SNKP21J1. Had to look it up. I bought it on Jomashop a couple of years ago. It's kinda too big for me at 42mm and long lug to lug, but it amuses me.

The Bambino is one of my “never sell“ watches. I’ll give it away in a few more years.  Just hard to fault it.   With sapphire, it’d be just about perfect at 3X the price.

Also on my never sell list! Incredibly elegant. The lack of a sapphire crystal is indeed not ideal Whats great is, its so thin it slips under cuffs, protecting the watch. Havent gotten a scratch yet.

My 20 year old Orange monster has a hardlex mineral crystal.  It's the only part of that watch that is unscratched.  I think modern mineral crystal is basically the same as sapphire.  Next to impossible to scratch.  So we probably over worry about the crystal.

Incidentally - my monster also has Arabic as second language on the day wheel!
