The MoonSwatch Review - 2022 Most Controversial Watch(es)?

It's a Swatch that looks like an Omega Speedmaster, period.

Hate it or love it, the range of MoonSwatches is possibly one of the most controversial release in 2022. Snaking queues formed all over the world, much to the disdain of many watch enthusiasts. For me, it's just an element of fun injected into the watch world by this collaboration between Omega and Swatch, and why not?

I personally own the Mission to Saturn and got my wife the Mission to Venue, with the latter purely a decision based on color. Whereas for my choice, I particularly like the planet Saturn imprinted on the dial and the brown/bronze color which I know will never oxidise and change its shade!

This watch also serves up something very casual and fun. Perfect for dress down Fridays or picnics on a weekend! Aesthetically as a whole, it looks great, somewhat a "homage" to the Omega Speedmaster. If you think it will dilute the real speedmaster lineup, then I'd think you will be wrong on this because no way will this ever be mistaken as an "actual" Speedmaster, least to replace it. One of the first thing I did though was to change out the strap to rubber ones, simply because the ones that came with the watches were not to my liking.

Finally, will I "collect em all?" HELL NO!

Love the review.

I rarely wear them, they are just for weekend fun overpriced plastic watch. Although I have 3 colours LOL and that's more than enough for me.

Wow! Which 3 did you end up getting? I got the Venus for my wife, so technically… I only own one MoonSwatch. Hahaha!

Love this!

Actually I had this many 😂 but I gave most of it away. So now I’m left with Uranus, Mars and Venus. I don’t like the darker one, prefer the real moonwatch 😬

I love them, but them again I'm a proper nerd, I love my Lego Swatch, and pretty much all the toys and associated merchandise from when I was a child (my wife might argue I still am a child). So it's no surprise that when a toy version of my favourite watch came out I'd want one.... But.... I got the mission to mercury and now I want them all! I just can't justify spending £220 on another Swatch let alone 11!

This is probably very controversial but I also bought the dhgate version of the mission to mercury to compare the two. I genuinely believe it is the better made watch. It has a 20mm strap which suits the watch better, glass crystal set on a steel inner (this differs from the genuine one which sits on plastic the same colour as the dial), smaller crown, better movement, and the list goes on. It also cost £25 delivered.

As a result I've pulled the battery from the genuine one and put it into my collection never to see the light of day again and the dhgate version is in my watch box on a black NATO with twin grey stripes.

Nice pairing of the nato strap and watch! Yes, you are right. I don’t think the price justifies why one should “collect ‘em all”! Hahaha! Definitely stopping at the 2 pieces my wife and I have now.

I also own a Speedmaster 38 (small wrist woes) and it’s simply not the same, referring to the MoonSwatch! I like how you put it, the toys associated with a Swatch. You are right, Swatch saw the fun behind putting a reputable watch brand and model into a plastic case! Hahaha! Wonder what else do they have up their sleeves, pretty sure we won’t see any other watch collabs already. Unless… Rolex X Swatch? 😂

Wow! You almost had them all! I wonder the display box Swatch uses to put all 11 pieces is for sale? Hahaha!

100% and that's why I love it. I do also think that's why Swatch have inflated the price so much, to get the value from the collaboration that Omega wanted them to get.

I also love that they have limited numbers, despite hating the fact that it made it harder to get one, it makes me feel all warm inside now that I do have one.🤣🤣🙈

Like many watch aficionados, I too love the Omega Speedmaster and it's space-faring legacy. BUT either can't afford, or are reluctant, to spend the necessary scratch to purchase one. And like many, choose an homage or an alternative instead. In my case the homage is the Pagani Design PD1701v3.

I have nothing against the MoonSwatch and rather like the Moon, Mercury and Pluto versions, but personally think they are over priced for what you get. Plus the nearest Swatch Boutique to me is 1500 miles and a flight away! LOL!

The Pagani 1701 is a decent Speedy homage and sure it doesn't carry the Omega logo (or even the price tag of the MoonSwatch for that matter), but it'll do!

Enjoy your MoonSwatches folks! 😎
