Tis too long a tale to write…. But, at my now 70 years of age, I will tell part of it. Growing up, we lived next to our church. I was an altar boy, and because we were close, from about age 7, I served most funerals. As time went by, I was called on to be a pall bearer at family and friend burials. I became the designated family witness to coffin closings, and after services, the witness to multiple interments. In the past two decades, I have assisted a number of times in planning arrangements, mainly because of my distrust of the funeral industry and preying on those grieving.

My dad died in 2004, and after burial, my mother asked me if I removed his watch. I replied no, as no one instructed me to do so. She was pissed, saying “it was a good one”. Well, ma’s idea of good was whatever the home shopping network said it was.
Doubt it was an automatic, as he had a two day funeral and it was still ticking. Doubt it is now.
