Personally, I think about it quite a bit, but being fairly new I don’t know how expensive it actually is. Been keeping myself to never watches with Seiko or Sellita movements as I tell myself that they must be cheaper to service, but what are your experiences?
I've got quite a few vintage watches which I buy from auctions on Ebay where the watches have been found in house clearances etc & are in 'as is' condition & typically has never been serviced. I always factor in the cost of a service when buying. For example the last watch I bought was a Nivada Grenchen chronomaster, it ran but was filthy dirty & was very inaccurate so I sent it straight off to my watchmaker. It cost £300 to service as it a manually wound chronograph movement including a new main spring! Now running much more accurately & nice & clean lol
I've resigned myself to never being rich, in part because I don't make a lot of my decisions with their financial implications in mind.
I just assume that whatever watch I buy out of warranty will need some work sooner or later. That may mean that I'm upside down on the purchase.
