Comfort Zone Watch

I’ve got lots of awesome watches in my collection, but, since I got this Seiko Willard SPB183J1 it’s become my comfort zone watch. I got the idea of a comfort zone watch from fellow watchcruncher @squarestanley and I wanted to dedicate a post to the idea and share my comfort zone watch.

There is something special about how the Willard fits and feels on my wrist. The lug-to-lug, the thickness the overall look of the willard just fits me perfectly. Every time I choose to wear a different watch I find myself wishing I wore my trusty blue willard.

I know there are far more rare and special hard to find Seiko watches which I hope to own one day but for me, the blue Willard will always be my all-time favorite Seiko, for some unexplainable reason, I absolutely love this watch. The shade of blue that is sometimes royal blue or deep navy blue depending on how the light hits the dial. The deep & slim cushion case, short lug-to-lug & asymmetrical case shape makes this watch wear like a dream.

For me this watch is not only special because of it’s beautiful looks & design but it also holds a special meaning for me. I remember dropping an obvious hint (hehehe 😅) a couple of Christmases ago to my dad that this is a watch I really really liked. About a week before Christmas I was helping my dad take the groceries from our car to the house when I saw a conveniently hidden bag at the back of the trunk. I didn’t say anything so that come Christmas I can act surprised hahaha!

I wanted to share this with you guys as I feel only true watch geeks will truly understand that indescribable emotional and many times irrational attachment we form with our watches. This is definitely a “for life” keeper in my collection and it has become my “comfort zone” watch.

I used to baby this watch a little bit when I first got it. 2 years of almost non-stop wear, this has been with me on several trips to Singapore, LA & Hong Kong. Now it’s got several fairly deep scratches on the bezel & bracelet but for me I’ve learned to live and even love the battle scars. As watches of Espionage says, Use your tools 🛠️♠️ 🌊

I would love to see your comfort zone watches. Cheers 🍻

Most of my watches qualify, otherwise they would not stay in my collection. But the Sinn 556 is probably the most versatile of all including in the comfort department

·

The #sinn 556 is a fine choice!

Nice Willard with a good backstory! 👍🏼

I don’t know about a “comfort zone watch” but I suppose my Doxa would fit the bill. Maybe a few more.

Great choice! I would love to add a #doxa sub300 in my collection someday

Nice! Some people don’t like the stock bracelet but I think it’s great!

Agreed, comfortable and looks good imho. Could do without the diver's extension tho 👍🏻

·

Love this post!

I get what you mean about being sentimental plus, the comfort that makes a watch special.

Nice, yes, it’s a great watch! If I may ask, what made you decide to part ways with it?

Yes, I agree 1000% about the diver’s extension. It’s so difficult to get to and open and if someone were to wear the watch over a wetsuit I imagine they would just put the watch on a nato

Thank you! It’s one of those things that I feel only fellow watch geeks will understand 🤝🏽

Had to many watches at the time.

Had the SLA033 in the collection when i bought it, so i sold the SPB183 aften couple of months.

I do miss the bracelet.

It's a beautiful watch. I would love one myself, but I have a hard time justifying the price when the Turtle gets me 1/2 way there. I keep an eye on eBay though...

Slightly nodded green willard, never leaving the collection

I see where you’re coming from. The turtle is a great watch! But for me the turtle though very similar is still too thick for my taste.

Very cool! The green dial black bezel combo is great! Did you put the green bezel on the black dial Willard? 🤔

Thanks bro, love yours as well! I only have the green willard but thought about getting one of the other versions. I bought the bezel insert separately from Lumed Ceramic Bezel Inserts, they have only one lumed insert for the willard. If you don't mind losing the all-original charm, you should check it out!

Would it be poasible to put a bracelet on the SLA033? Just wondering, though I’m familiar with the watch I haven’t seen it in the metal and handled it so I’m not sure.

I just got my Turtle about a week ago and I am modding it soon precisely because it feels a bit chunkier than it needs to be. Coin edge bezel and I am also changing the insert. I posted about it recently. I am excited for the new look.

Sounds like an awesome project!
