The 5KX homage we didn't know we needed

Cadisen has released an homage to the 5KX line of watches with their C8220 diver. It features a smaller case, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, and 200m of water resistance. Under $100 USD. Where has it fallen short of Seiko, though?

Man, they even got it down to the “Automatic” font. They weren’t pulling they’re punches with this one at all.

Well, there's a couple of things they could've done better, but all and all a great budget watch in an alternative size.

I have a bunch of homages, believe there’s a place and use for them in watch collecting, and think they are generally a good way to try many classic watches without spending thousands. But I am having trouble understanding why to buy a homage of a why not spend just a couple of hundred dollars more and get the Seiko? Am I missing something?

I hear you. But everyone's different. You mentioned "thousands," but for some $300 to $500 could be that unobtainable price. Or, maybe others like the smaller size, the different specs, don't want the day complication, or just want the same look but able to knock it around as beater due to the low price. You never know what drives wants of specific watches.

I have the #seiko srpd59 and it doesn't have a jubilee like the Cadisen, but I did buy one off Ali Express that's either similar or identical to the Cadisen's stock bracelet. I can say for sure that the stock Seiko bracelet felt more comfortable as it it had better edges compared to the Ali Express one which had sharp corners on some links which I did feel time to time.

This one doesn't seem to have any sharp corners. And it hasn't been a hair puller so far. There's a little bit of play side to side, but wears very comfortably. It's got a huge taper, from 20mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp. That keeps the clasp very petite, and it's still balanced well against the weight of the watch head. I'm pretty impressed with the overall package.

Now the stock bracelet on the Pagani Design PD-1701 is sharp!

How long should the Cadisen C8220M be worn a day and how long will it last unworn?

My 1st auto watch purchase so unsure how all should work to check if the watch is of good quality.

thanks!

You can wind it manually (about 40 turns) or just wear it going about your normal day and it will wind automatically. If fully wound, and you took the watch off and did nothing, it would continue to run for about 41 hours. That amount of time is called a Power Reserve. It will vary among various movement models or manufacturers, but is relatively the same across all watches that have the same movement. In other words, this is running the NH35 and will have about the same performance regardless of the watch it is in.

Great thanks very much!

I have winded it now and will test the power reserve. Before it was only staying on for approx 12 hrs.
