What’s the meaning of a timepiece to you?

There is a difference between wearing a watch to remind us time or a watch means more than telling time to you? A timepiece or watch to me represents: stories, celebration of special occasions and events, heirloom, style, the mechanical movement inside the case, hundred of tidy mechanical parts act like an orchestral band to make accurate time, accomplishments, status (luxury watches), experiences, cultural themes and artistic designs. Even though these are little shiny objects that we wear regularly, but they can be special timepieces if we chose to discover them. That said, my watch journey has just begun. A lot to be educated and explore as a watch enthusiast. This is a great time to become a watch collector or enthusiast. There are so many options and good micro brands, along with quality and adventurous experience.

watches tell me a hint about the wearer's

personality and world view

I've been an enthusiast for over 5 decades. I have a lot of different watches, like all types, and don't know or care why I do. By not over thinking my connection with watches frees up more space to carry on enjoying them.

I like this

Equally as much as I like this

And if anyone ever asked my why I'd say "Because I like watches"

What Mr. Foghorn above said… I second it.

You have a lot of passion for watches! Cheers

For myself, the watch has to make me feel good when I look at it. It is not something that I choose at first sight. This has to be consistent before I make the purchase. Some of them I instantly like but I still wait a few weeks and some just fall off the radar.

I find status strange. Someone buys a watch not for them but for the other people around them who may possibly look at it. Frankly, nobody care and seldom look at the watch you are wearing unless they love watches. I know these people exists but why would someone define themselves with an object that can be purchased ?

Nice Discovery. Greta answer, I might have to start using your answer as my reply when asked why.

Lately I have been thinking about my curious passion for the silly mecanical objects that have lasted so many decades, just a pleasant distraction from the usual events of living life, might be described as no more than a habit that is not a bad one. Simply stated, I like watches.

I concur! A watch has to connect with you and speak to you. It has a soul and should insyn with your personality.

Being a watch enthusiast should be a fun and enjoyable experience. Don’t take it too serious but have a passion with each timepiece that rests on your wrist. Only buy them with FU money and no credit card debt. Thanks

I wish there was a way to repost this because it hits the nail on the hammer about what it means to wear a watch. Great post.

A ⌚, for me, is a companion. From the freshly minted timepiece adorning a wrist at the beginning of a chapter to the battle worn scratches from daily wear (something that I despise despite whatever character they suggest), a ⌚ represents a journey through a chapter in life. For many years, I wore the same Omega Seamaster Chronograph from 2006 because it was durable and relatively versatile, though not quite dressy as I would have thought. Anyway, it saw me through my master's degree and Ph.D., during which I lived on both coasts and my Mother passed away. I do not wear that ⌚ much anymore because it is a bit thick for my taste and has an older Valjoux 7750 movement. Nevertheless, I cannot quite bring myself to sell it yet am not interested in servicing it either because it has memories that I am unprepared to revisit. Rarely do I use my ⌚ to tell the time because I am so reliant upon my phone for other critical features, such as email, but the ⌚ is also a form of functional jewelry. A nice dial and bracelet make a powerful statement that can inject confidence in the same way that a good suit and a nice pair of shoes can. Except that the ⌚ will outlive the shoes and the suit and encompass memories of that graduatio, interview, working through 36-hour shifts to get a dissertation done, the nights in the hospital during final hours of a loved one, that trip abroad taken after a lifetime of waiting. Expensive as they are, and needlessly so, they are our friends.

Good to focus on quality over quantity. They can be pricy as well. Think alike.
