Definetly not "Monaco" Review

its funny sometimes i found somebody who interested in wristwatch came from a place which im not expected. a few days ago im scrolling through the endless story from my ig account and then this watch came out, oh man my friend just bought a tag heuer monaco its awesome. but then when i look closer hmm wait a minute the brand is different what is it "specht and sohne" ?? never knew that brand before. its one of my friend from the same church which i didnt expect. after some texting through the dm we decided to go grab a beer on the weekend and "talking watches". well church isnt too boring after all i guess. he bring some of his collection and i also bring mine. most of his collection consist of seiko (dresskx, a few modded 5kx, casio, etc)

and then i decided to borrow some of his collection that i found it interesting (for photograph and review purpose). first one is this "specht and sohne" monaco gulf edition. from the design perspective its obvious it is a clomage from tag heuer monaco gulf edition which steve mcqueen wear. digging through their website i came to the conclussion this specht and sohne are american microbrand (probably manufacture in china) which specialized producing many clomage watch including bell and ross, patek aquanaut and tag heuer monaco for now. they actually specify at their website which brand and model that they copy, so there is some honesty here.

aside from their design lets take a look at the product shall we.

case:

made from 316l stainless steel with mostly brushed and polish finished. quality is quite good for me, its nice to touch, no sharp edge. solid backcase with 4 screw. case dimension is   39mm width and 13mm thick without the crystal, its close to the real monaco dimension and its thinner for about 2mm. its a thick watch for me

dial and lume:

Image

dial is pretty nice. half of the blue colour has a sunburst effect, the other half of the dial which consist of light blue and orange is matt finished. there are lume at the hands and the dot inside the dial, its the same placement as the real monaco. however there is a missalign at the chronograh hand and from the hand of the minute subdial.

water resistant:

it is say 30atm and it has a screw down crown with a specht and sohne logo on the crown, nice touch.

movement and function:

Image

its seiko mecaquartz vk64 equipped with date window. it has a different subdial function than the monaco, one is a 24 hour function the other is minute counter.

crystal:

Image

it has a hardened mineral crystal with bevel edge. looking good enough for me

strap and clasp:

Image

strap is made from genuine leather with a rally style, its a nice and soft leather but for durability its unknown since its a new watch. its equipped with deployant clasp with specht and sohne logo, definitely better than entrt level seiko clasp😂

price:

Image

from the official website it says 370$. but my friend bought it for 200$, i checked on the local online marketplace and it says 200$

conclussion:

while most of the enthusiast didnt appreciate clomage i found this timepiece is actually has a good quality for the price he pays. its a solid built watch, and if he's happy to own it im happy too for him. if you guys want to own a monaco with a fraction of the original price you should give specht and sohne a chance. thx for read my review and cheers🍺.

Nice looking piece.  Personally, the dreaded H-word doesn't bother me.  If you are looking for something very Monaco-like but not a clone check out the EMG Horizon.  Uses the same mech-quartz movement.  I have one and enjoy it.

Nice series of photos - I am a fan of the Monaco but not so much this particular dial design with the asymmetric racing stripe motif. The Monaco seems to be a pretty polarizing design for some, so this is probably a great watch to play with before dropping the $ down on the real deal.
