TIL: Butterfly Dust?
Watching another watch repair video https://youtu.be/sZ4dxhRTTHQ and the maker mentioned that the dial was made from butterfly dust. WHAT?! Thought he was joking, but no. Makers have and currently use this butterfly dust to color dials.

That is so crazy, I could see people paying some big $ for something unique like this. Also, it does remind me of something my local zoo gift shop would stock-not in a bad way, those items are usually expensive and well-made. I hope more alternative and sustainable materials make their way to the watchmaking world! I saw a really cool leather band with an ancient Roman coin imbedded as the buckle. Not sure if it was authentic, or if I would use a historical item like that, but I thought it was cool. Figured I would throw in as well that I am not working at work lol. Slow day at the office.
That's just insane.
On another note, the subject line immediately made me think of the RHCP song Warm Tape with the lyrics "two of us were made of angels dust".
