Never have I ever…

Hi there,

This is the story of my 5626-7110 King Seiko.

This was a project watch I picked up about two years ago on what is essentially Germany’s equivalent to Craigslist.

I was extremely thrilled because it was on its original Seiko KS bracelet and since most KS came on leather at the time those bracelets are not common at all.

So then the watch arrived and I was a little shocked about how bad of a shape it was in…

As time went by I accepted my fate and began sourcing spare parts.

In the end I bought a new dial from Japan a gasket Kit from Australia, a shot Lord Matic for movement spare parts of eBay and was faced with the very annoying task of glueing the Sternkreuz XMF 300.863 crystal into the original chromed brass crystal ring which took me about 20 attempts with about 6 different adhesives since the glue must be absolutely transparent, bubble and dust free since it remains visible when the crystal is mounted back into the case. I will link a very helpful article concerning Seiko crystal rings if you ever happen to be in a similar situation 😅.

On the positive side the cleaning and oiling of the movement and also the replacement of the broken main spring arbor went really well and I didn’t even have to call my befriended watchmaker to come in and help me… this time.

Despite my very limited free time alongside university I eventually managed to resurrect this absolutely stunning vintage beauty ☺️.

And the only thing I regret is not taking any photos to share it all with you🤦🏼‍♂️.

As you may have noticed the watch in the picture is on a different bracelet and although it is also a period correct Seiko bracelet from 1969 I can’t wait to get on with the restoration of the KS bracelet and finally complete this journey that took me waaay longer than I ever anticipated

So if you did, thank you for reading through all this and have nice weekend.

Love it looks great. I might have to grab on one of those LM bracelets for my 5625-7113, as I’ve more or less given up on finding a decently priced KS one.

Always love seeing the KS line getting some love.

5626-7113 is awesome because it ain’t a “front loader” like mine and you can get very nicely made sapphire case backs for them.

I totally agree. Mines actually the 5625, which is the date only which I prefer.

I find also that the screw down casebacks, especially the later models, are generally in slightly better condition for some reason as well.

The time collective actually just released a sapphire case back for the 56 series, not sure if I got 100 to drop on it right now though

Underestimated a project both cost and time wise by that big of a factor 😅

Ah. I'm in the same boat. Bought a '75 World Time fixer-upper. Needs more than I bargained for.
