Quick question for the watchmakers or fixers

Last year I bought a birth year Timex from Chrono24 (1964).  The weird thing is I can't wind it, but all I have to do is put it on, set the time and it lasts for as long as I'm wearing it.  Is this truly a self-winding watch?  lol.  I'm pretty sure an automatic and self-winding is the same thing, but is this watch really magic?  I only want to wear it once a year, but just had it out and put it on few an hour and the thing runs great.  Any ideas what this magic is?

There were automatic watches that did not have a winding feature (Seiko was famous for the Seiko wrist shake). I don't know what an early 60's Timex is like, those usually only tell the correct time twice a day. It may not be able to be wound. "Self-winding" and "Automatic" are synonymous. "Self-winding" seems to be the earlier term and was used on American watches through the 60's (when there were American watches). The power reserve on old automatics is practically nil.

I'm not sure if you have a watch winder, but if you do, you could put it in there and see if it still runs. That would answer your question. As mentioned earlier, I have a newer Seiko 5 that also doesn't hand-wind; it's auto-wind only, so it's not uncommon.

Cool!  I had a watch winder, but didn't really use it.  Thanks Robert!

Thanks Aurelian, very interesting, This Timex really is very accurate as long as I'm wearing it.
