EU to UK

Hello - when ordering a watch of Chrono 24 from and EU seller , do I have to assume I’m going to be hit with VAT on top of the purchase price ?

I doubt it. A friend is yet to incur any additional charges from any purchase made abroad. China, Germany and Japan. 😉

Ye mate you pay duty on anything over I think it's £120 + so anything under you get away with it mate. I personally got hammered by duty when I got something from Japan

·

Dam . I got hit when I got the glycine direct from them (it was heavily discounted ) . For some reason I thought maybe Chrono 24 prices might take those charges into account . Sodding hell . Makes what looks like a really good price a lot less attractive.

Chances are you will, especially if it comes via one of the big couriers. You might get lucky, I did on a £2k purchase and a couple of smaller ones. Plus, the Vat is on the purchase and the postage cost.

·

Yes.

That Brexit was a treat, wasn't it?

I've purchased from UK to EU, the other way around and from outside both (US, Japan, Russia). It's likely you'll have to pay VAT on both the purchase, the postage AND you pay VAT on the VAT. It'll take anything from a week to two months. And that's if they don't lose or abandon it. Grrr. 😕

Luck of the draw really, or how the seller sends it, recent purchase from Japan didn't incur any charges. Recent purchase form the US did

·

It is luck of the draw . I’ve ordered bike parts that have just arrived with no messing . Yet both times I’ve ordered watches I’ve been stung with charges

·

Yes. I think around 20%

Unless you get a decent seller who will mark it as "gift" or declare the value to be much lower.

Avoid buying from American sellers, they all refuse to do either of those things 🤯

Isn’t there a 2500usd grace amount?

Oh gawd I wish ! No . There is an amount for a “gift “ that I think is around 2k . So if buying from an individual you can probably get away with it . Not if you’re buying from a company though . I mean it is a gift . It’s a gift to me from me for putting up with being me . Still have to pay 20% VAT plus import charges on that
