An Unexpected Watch Purchase

I had some time to kill last Friday evening and unsurprisingly found myself browsing a few watch shops. I had no intention of buying anything. My agenda was simply to try on a watch or two that were on my list to get a sense of the sizing and whether I liked how they looked on my wrist or not.

While looking for another watch, I spotted the SNP161. I had seen the watch online but didn't think much of it, but in person I found I liked the way it looked. Curiosity got the better of me (as it almost always does) and I tried it on. I liked it even more on the wrist. The salesperson then told me that Seiko had discontinued the model and this was the last one in the store. Oh, and they were offering a 50% discount.

While I was tempted to pull the trigger there and then, I didn't know enough about the watch to feel comfortable buying it. So I went back home and researched it. I found myself intrigued by the history and mechanics of the kinetic movement. The idea of owning a perpetual calendar didn't hurt either. None of that tipped the scales though.

I showed my wife photos of the watch. I thought she would hate it and that would end the temptation. I was wrong. She thought it looked very nice. I told her it was the last one in the store and that it was 50 percent off. She said in that case, I should probably get it. I wasn't expecting that reaction either. It was starting to feel like the universe wanted me to buy this watch. As it happens, we were going to be in the same area on Saturday evening. I asked my wife to come see the watch with me in person. She agreed.

Obviously, you know how the story ended or I wouldn't be writing this post. We went back to the store. I tried on the watch. My wife approved. But here's the kicker: She then bought me the watch as an early anniversary gift.

And that's how I ended up with a Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual, a watch I had never ever thought about owning.

The planets aligned (happens to me more often than it should) great looking watch, I love the dial colour 👌Not a bad way to mark an anniversary 👍

Thanks. I agree 100%. Even though I tell myself I don't need her to like a watch, I feel better when she does.

There are so many hidden gem Seikos that nobody can keep track of them. Glad you found one.

Thanks. Agree 100% about Seiko. It's impossible to keep track of all of their watches.
