Retro Heaven and Improving Perfection pt 2

Now you've got to feel sorry (tiny bit) for my next piece of retro goodyness. For whilst Seiko was planning retro inspired world domination Timex was having their own stab at it with their 1972 World Timer

Now I did a write up on my first ever watch

Image

The teeny tiny little black timex. Well this re issue is a nice 39mm so is more manageable (seeable to my 70s vintage eyes) and its even got 50m of WR (which is more than some of their dive/beach inspired watches).

Image

It's a cool looking, yes it's quartz but that's what Timex does, makes affordable watches, and one of the pioneer's of the throwaway age. But it looks good, a maxi sized 70s inspired Timex, what's not to love. It's even got an acrylic crystal that will scratch but the joy of polywatch will sort that out and you get that lovely distortion off the domed acrylic

Now looking at a reveiw of this by the Casual Watch Reveiw he suggested dome strap options. The stock leather is ok, nice and soft and of good quality

Image

but in the end a bit boring, and it's not a boring watch. And as a strapoholic I was already on the case (well sifting through the overly large strap box) for replacements, and it turned out we were singing off the same page

Black tropic... sorted

Mesh...no problem

White tropic..for a fun vibe

And I know it will rock rally and nato, so a little strap monster.

It's got a world timer bezel, just turn it and hey presto instant info, you can easily look up where your fellow crunchers are residing anywhere in the world. And it's another friction actioned bezel (but with a lot looser feel than the Seiko) and can be useful to time a soft boiled egg GMT+ Dehli perfect 👌. But there's a problem with it, turns out 70s world time is different from now world time, they changed it 🤬 (i blame decimalisation or the French, its always the French).

Image

The face is great plenty of pop especially from the lovely red second hand and I really love the trapezoidal date window (why can't other manufacturers ((and on more expensive watches)) make date windows as good as this) BRAVO Timex.

Again nice finishing on the case, brushed uppers with polished sides and an interesting crown.

All this for the princely sum of £165 from Timex UK (the only bugger in the selection without 15% off but it is a new release so hey ho).

So another retro release that's a joy to wear, but it was a shame it arrived the same week as the Seiko it was like just getting a new Jaguar and then the Ferrari turned up. It's not Seiko league but it's another miles of smiles watch (wearing it now actually 😊) and its got one thing the Seiko hasn't got 1972, yep my birth year. So now I've got my first watch and a birth year watch (ok it isn't an actual made in 72 and the 1st watch isn't my actual 1st watch, so let's say hommage, but done right)

So in my book that's as cool as a cucumber in a freezer at the North Pole.

Join me for pt3 (if this loads up🤞)
