"Tomorrowland" Timex MK1

Expanding on my #WRUW for today. The blue acrylic crystal on this thing somehow evokes the Space Age for me. Disneyland's Tomorrowland in the 1960s. All the promise of the atomic-powered future. Practically speaking, the novelty crystal is an impediment to legibility, and really saps the Indigo of its efficacy. The strap, while aesthetically a perfect complement to the crystal and the aluminum case, feels a bit chintzy. So this doesn't get a ton of wrist time. (Though I suspect that will change a bit when the weather gets warmer, since this feels like a summer watch to me.) But every time I lay eyes on it, it delights me like few other things can.

I don't have a great point of reference for loudness! It is certainly in a tie with my other Timex for loudest in my collection, anyhow. Audible from the nightstand in the wee hours, or when held near the ear, but otherwise I don't hear it.

You probably associate it with Tomorrowland because blue is heavily used in the People Mover ride which runs all over Tomorrowland.

That's definitely part of it! I think that memories of the beautiful blue submarine lagoon feed the association as well. <Pours one out for the late great PeopleMover.>

The precise vibe I get.

I noticed that the strap on Timex's website is a dark, olive green. Is the strap in your picture an after-market strap? If so, I would consider that problem already solved.

In my mind, straps are secondary or even tertiary considerations, next to the watch itself.

In the picture, I can see the dial just fine. Is there an in-person difference? Does the crystal generate excessive glare in sunlight? Please elaborate as to the decreased legibility.

I see the MK1 I think you're referencing, with its dark green band, on the Timex site, but my particular model is nowhere to be found there. (Though it's fairly readily available elsewhere.) So no: the strap is OEM. But I should stress that, though it feels cheap between the fingers, it doesn't bother me a bit on wrist, so I don't consider it a problem to be solved.

As to the legibility: there is an in-person difference, yes. The camera is kind to this watch in that regard. That said, the dial is far from illegible; it's just that the blue acrylic flattens out the overall contrast noticeably. You can probably get the best sense of the effect from a side-by-side with the same watch without the tinted crystal:

Doesn't trouble me a bit, but I figured I'd list what niggles I could in the interest of thoroughness!

Ah, yes. The difference is obvious. 👍

Hi! Can I know the lug-to-lug of the watch and your wrist size? Wanna make sure it wears well on my wrist before buying this beauty!

Of course! My wrist is 6.5"and I just measured the lug-to-lug at 47.25mm. Hope that helps!
