Window shopping & trials: Hunting for the next watch

What's up Crunchers!

Yesterday was an interesting day in terms of horological discovery and new meetings. I'd like to share that with you and also to ask for your advice.

Last year I achieved many holorogical milestones including my grail watch, Omega's Moonwatch. The watch I've been dreaming of since I was a teenager😎

But as you all know, this hobby/passion never lies still and is continously evolving, challenging us and thus making us wonder of the next new project as soon we finished and achieved the previous one 😅

You guessed it, that's totally the state I'm right now: I'm already thinking of what could be the next addition to my collection: a diver of higher quality, a GADA watch (10bar WR, anti-magnetic properties, strap/situation polyvalent, etc) or a combination of both?? I'm also in the process of redefining my collection, because there are watches I love but don't wear anymore... I'd to maybe have a smaller collection, but with watches that speak enough to me, watches I can rely on and thus will give me the desire to rotate and wear them all regularly.

To scratch the itch, I went yesterday to some boutiques to try on a few watches I had on a first prospective list 😂. As you can see, I tried different brands and sizes. And that really helped me clarifying a bit more what I'd be looking for: a watch that is smaller than 40mm diameter and not to flamboyant, max. lug-to-lug of 49mm, max thickness of 13mm, min. WR of 10bar but ideally 20bar, some shock and anti-magnetic resistance.

I like the micro-adjustment possibility on a bracelet too, but it's not a deal breaker either.

The Tudor BB58 gave me a really nice feeling and qualitative impression. So did the Omega Aqua Terra 38mm, even if its bracelet is maybe a bit too shiny for me (but I could change it easily of course). Unfortunately for me, the BB54 was not in store so i could try it on. The Longines Zulu Time was really beautiful, even though the version I tried was way to big amd thick at 42mm.

I know Watches & Wonders will potentially unveil soon new options for me, but your knowledge and expertise are priceless and of course welcome!😁

So, what do you guys think? Wich options did I miss/have still to try on? Let me know! And thanks for reading🍻

What was your favourite of all these watches you tried on?

I have the Zulu 39mm and it fits my 6.5” wrist well I think 😊 It’s a great watch 👍 The leather strap also has micro -adjustment.

Nice! I'll look for the 39mm next time. Thank you!

I love the SM300 and the Nekton was really nice in person. I love the brand and link to James Bond's universe. It's just they're quite chunky and a tad too big... I wish they'd introduce a 41mm or less version that is also thinner😇

I hear you - frustrating when you find the right watch but it isn’t the right fit

The Longines is a stunner!

I, like you are looking to scratch the itch of a new watch and while I'm not looking for something that checks any particular box, this hobby often reveals likes and dislikes. With that said I have tried on the same 38mm Omega Aqua Terra Shades, the Black Bay Burgundy (Id love it on that 5 link jubilee), the Longines Blue dial Master Colander Chronograph, and a Grand Seiko SBGM 221 (cream dial GMT in the elegance line I believe)

But then you have W&W2024 lingering around the corner so I'm also considering holding fast to see what shakes down out of the trees. Out of all that you post, I fancy the AT and the BB Burgundy the most.

I wish you luck and follow your heart; you've made a great selection of timepieces, kind sir 👍🏼

The blue BB58 looks fantastic on you!!

·

The green dial Aqua Terra is 🔥🔥🔥

W&W is definitely going to bring some new options. That Zenith is awesome and so are the others you showed here. An independent/micro brand to not sleep on: Monta. It’s not just hype, their watches really are incredible and the price point is awesome.

Thanks for your input! Let's indeed wait a bit longer to see the announcements next week hehe

Thank you Marc! I will check that brand out

I love all those watches you tried on. I’d go for a Tudor or Longines

·

Call me crazy but I don’t like the more aggressive edges of the bezel and crown on the new red BB41. The more reeded edges of the previous BBs better matches the cleanliness of their designs

I'm thinking the same. Both brands offer really nice value, history and good options!
