FOG (not shown here)! Comments and thoughts appreciated

A few months ago I jumped into a pool with my SPB149s crown unscrewed! It took me a couple minutes to realize I did. I am still not sure if the crown was also pulled-out, the fact is that no sign of humidity was shown untill a couple days ago, when on a boat, on a nice 2-day vacation, the fog decided to show up. As of now, the watch shows no signs of humidity, bit I cannot unsee things lol

As far as I understand (and have read) being on a boat, on a nice (hot) weather, exposes the watch to extreme temperatures, and then, even if the unscrewed crown incident hadn’t happened, the fog could have still shown… this is a Diver’s watch, so I still think it was my stupidity that brought the fog up!

In any case! Is going in for service today!! Fingers crossed

Sorry to hear about the fog, not a great feeling I’m sure.

It’s never happened to me, but I’ve been told that if moisture ever did get into a mechanical movement, pull the pin out so the watch stops and bring the watch in for servicing.

This is supposed to prevent any major damage from happening to the movement. A little bit of moisture can do some bad things if left unchecked.

Good luck!

Should be an easy enough fix. You'd have to uncase the movement, wipe down the inside with some alcohol, and put the case and movement inside a closed container with a silica gel pack or some sort of desiccant.

Smart decision to see a watch repairer as it’s a few months now the moisture has been inside the case. Too bad you didn’t get a chance to put the watch in a bag of dried rice for a week after jumping in the pool.

Sorry to hear this but don't agree with your boat thesis. I work in nautical segment, sailor as hobby and never seen fog on my watch while swimming and/or sailing in hot environment ( sometimes 40+ degrees ). Worn diff watchges from 100 to 300m WR and this never happened. Probably some water/moisture entered the movement while unscrewed in pool and now is evaporating in hotter days. Go for service.

You should definitely check it out, but it may not require a full service. Might just need to have the case back taken off, aired out, and perhaps a change of gaskets. TLDR it's a relatively new watch so see if you can get away with not completely pulling the thing apart and spending hundreds.

@TimeOnTarget has the best strategy in my humble opinion. I have also dealt with water intrusion and just some silica gel for the movement works wonders. I can attest to it working. It saved me having to service one of my watches again.
