Yema superman SLIM CMM.20 - yea or nay

I have heard of Yema. But by accident i came across this (newish?) Superman Slim.

39mm, case under 10mm (without 2mm domed crystal), enemal lacquered dial, sapphire bezel, Ultra-thin micro-rotor caliber.

But the star is the new bracelet. Wow, just WOW.

Am i the only one in love?

Anybody seen it in the metal?

I love it! This Watch, That Watch on YouTube did a great video about Yema I suggest you find! Will explain what their doing here with the watch.

I appreciate and applaud the creativity of making a new design, but I can't say I'm a fan of this "scales" look. I find it a bit out of place on a tool watch.

I can understand that, but I really really like the scale vibe.

Haven’t seen one live, love that bracelet it looks amazing.i am considering one of those, even though i had a bad experience with a new Yema recently. How does it wear?

·

I love the watch but that bracelet is a bit 🤢

·

I guess nobody has done a coffin link bracelet in a while.

·

Love that, especially the bracelet!

On another note, Yema uses a micro rotor manufacture movement in this all for a MSRP of $2490. The Superman CMM.10 also uses a manufacture movement for $1790. I will have to take another look at this brand.

I suppose my point is, come on Oris (specifically). If Yema can develop and manufacture their own movements and sell for less than an Oris with an off the shelf movement, seems something is amiss. If you add in the premium for an Oris manufacture movement, you have to wonder why? If a small company like Yema can do it, certainly a big company can do it for the same amount.

Food for thought.

I think yema is trying to break out from the many micro/small brands. They spend extra money on a custom bracelet cutting their teeth in making an in house movement. My views are influenced after watching a video from: this watch that watch, on youtube about yema

·

I like it!

I honestly haven’t taken much notice of yema. Respected for sure but nothing to consider buying. But I love this watch too, mostly for the bracelet. It looks great in my eyes

Call it slim. Make the case under 10mm...

then add another 20% to the thickness of the watch with just crystal...

I don't get it. And I don't really mind except when marketing conveniently leaves out any mention of the crystal, or adds it in after. It's part of the watch... it's part of the overall profile and thickness.

True, but a 12mm watch of which 2mm is taken by the crystal has a fastly different side profile compared to a watch that has a flat crystal and is also 12mm.

I love this watch! The bracelet is definitely different😂

·

The scale bracelet is super cool and works well on my 7 1/2 inch wrist. But I think it might be less flexible and therefore less ideal on smaller wrists.

Some may not be thrilled with the locking crown/bezel. It works for me since I like the interaction it forces you into.

Overall, I am super happy with this model.

I will guess brand heritage and marketing comes into the cost.

Yema, despite having a decent history operates like a very small Microbrand and does kickstarters still.

Not saying that’s “fair” but Oris has customers willing to pay and that’s just built over time. Yema needs more help and a base still based on how they operate. They also do very non traditional designs that capture an oddball type of a customer generally speaking I would say which will require the price to be competitive to get their attention. Same reason they’re doing the bracelet this way. Safe offering with a staggering difference compared to the other divers.

·

I hope they make this bracelet available on a few more case designs. If I didn't already have a case that looked like this I think I would go for it. Very cool watch.

·

I think it looks great and the bracelet is 🔥. Looks like scales. The blue is the star of the show. Good luck.

I fell in love with its design from day one, and as a guy who has a French/American family, I have a soft spot for Yema.

However…

  1. While the caliber is quite interesting, I don’t fully trust it yet

  2. They have quite the reputation for poor customer service

  3. I can’t stand the bezel lock

I honestly don’t think the price is too bad. I hear a lot of complaints, but it’s not much more than an Oris 65 with a base grade sellita.

I ended up buying the Mido Ocean Star Tribute special edition instead. It hit all the marks for me and I’m quite fond of the Caliber 80, as I have dealt with many of them without issue.

I think you are missing my point. That point is Oris is gouging it's customers, especially when you amortize development costs over the quantity of watches produced. More product = less cost per unit.

Another example would be Zodiak. As part of the Fossil Group, they have access to STP which is the Fossil equivalent of ETA to Swatch. A current Super Seawolf sports a manufacture movement from STP for a sub $2k US price. They aren't "sticking it to" their customers because of a manufacture movement.

I hear what you say about Oris and they're customers willing to pay a premium for their manufacture movement so bully for Oris. However, I have what, 3-4-5 Oris in my collection (though I haven't bought one in years) however I no want for their new manufacture movement given their mark-up. I just don't see a $4K Oris in my future; shoiuld be about a grand less.

Of course there are several other companies committing the same sin; "we developed our own movement so naturally we raise the price, even when that enhances our bottom line above the amortized developement cost". I don't think I am not alone in this sentiment. 👌
