Farewell to Japan

I bought this watch when I decided to go home and start my own business after 7 years living in Kyoto. I always say that this piece is more of an art piece than a watch. It perfectly represents the beauty, elegance, accuracy, and engineering of Japan. Every time I glance at this watch, it serves as a beautiful remembrance of the incredible adventures and cherished moments I experienced in this country.

I am flying tomorrow and this piece is what will be on my wrist throughout the journey.

(Bonus point to whoever can guess where I took the photo. Hint: it’s a popular spot in Kyoto 😉)

On Sanjo Street actually and not Gion but you got Kamo river right so

As a prize I will share a travel recommendation about Kyoto.

When people come to Japan and they want to try Yakitori, usually they would go to a chain restaurant called Torikizoku.

But did you know, in Kyoto there is a legendary Yakitori restaurant that’s been operating since 1966?

It is called Torisei.

They offer authentic yakitori menu paired with amazing sake selection at an affordable price.

There multiple shops but the one I would recommend is the main branch at Honten, near Momoyamagoryo-mae Station.

Thanks I’ll give it a go later this year. Normally I stick with Pontacho Alley. I had excellent Ramen at Wajoryomen Sugari last time. Have you a Ramen reccomendation?

Stunning! I like the different bracelet they are using on some of the current ones (like the white Omiwatari). What model is yours?

Of course!

You should try Tenkaippin ramen.

It is a chain ramen store originated in Kyoto. Their signature ramen is Kotteri (thick broth) ramen.

You can find it everywhere and a good place to taste Kyoto style ramen.

Another place I would recommend is Ginjo Ramen Kubota.

It is near Kyoto station.

They have ramen but their main dish is Tsukemen. It’s getting increasingly popular nowadays.

Locals tend to stay away from pontocho alley because it has many tourist trap, so better do your research well before going there.

It is SBGW281

Originally comes in a leather strap only.

I bought this bracelet from JB Forstner.

I used to live in Japan as a teenager and the thing I miss the most is public transportation, even if rush hour was hectic. You could even use a train's arrival time as a reference for if your watch is running fast/slow or not

It’s been a week and I have to say you are right. Nothing beats the convinience and reliablity of Japanese public transport 😑
