Review of the Berny Calatrava homage is a can't miss value

I had been stalking this watch for a while before I bought it at the recent 11/11 aliexpress sale. In full truth, I made an error when I ordered as I wanted a black dial, not the Grey one I got. After living with it, it turns out I like the grey just fine. It comes with a choice of movements. This one is a PT5000. It's case is 10.2 mm thick. It's currently running +4 sec per day. The lugs are 20 mm and I currently have a single pass nato on it.

Calatrava fans reportedly hated this sport watch. It was supposedly designed to be a collaboration with Ferrari, that did not work out. This watch illustrates the pitfalls of homage. In the effort to preserve the design esthetics of the dial, they had to place the date window partially in the interior ring. Probably because of the size of the movement. Look carefully at the date window and you will see what I mean. In fact, it's hard not to notice once you've seen it.

This watch has been running great and it looks nice enough to where formally. Once I find the best matching strap, that's my plan too.

it has a water rating of 10 atm and no screw down crowns. I am not thinking about swimming with it, but I do the dishes without fear.

The watch has brushed lugs and a polished bezel. The movement runs quietly and the automatic rotor is whisper like with its nouse level.

I think it nice to know that I don't have to spend $45,000 to feel good while I wear it. I urge others to give it a look. Berny has 6 configurations. Black or grey dial with either yellow, blue or Ferrari red highlights. The watch is such an attractive price that it raises the question about how much to spend on a suitable strap?

  • Sapphire sandwich
  • Excellent movement
  • The case is well finished and easily modified
  • The dial is stunning
  • It's a lot of watch for not a lot of money
  • The supplied watch band needs replacing
  • It's a homage to a $45,000 watch that still on the market.
  • The date wi down is small and slightly out of place
  • Crown might be a bit small

I'm glad they decided on a simple logo vs the whole name. Something about microbrands and Aliexpress homages that decide to put the ugliest names or fonts. I'm glad some brands are stepping away from the same old Rolex homages.

Nice review Skilly. Berny do seem to be making inroads lately and a fan of many a YouTube reviewer. I really like yours. The blue on the dial and seconds hand really work.
