Time to downsize

Hey guys, it is me again with the same take I brought up three months ago but this time I made up my mind! ๐Ÿ™

I recently visited my A.D. for a present for someone else and happend to see the new Daytonas in the showcase so of course I had to take a look. Previously I confessed my love for the yellow gold Paul Newman refrence which really caught me off guard. Never did I think such a "fancy-boy" watch would strike me so much but well seems like I am a sucker for gold on these things. ๐Ÿ˜Ž This time tho I got hands on with the new version of the daytona and damn they really did a great job. Subtle changes that elevate the whole thing from a highly demanded somewhat small chronograph to a real refined piece of art in my opinion. Well tastes differ and rose gold is not for everyone but in combination with that black dial I just can't help myself and admire it. ๐Ÿ˜

I feel like I have been at this point before a couple of months ago and I felt like a little kid who could not decide which toy it wanted the big Power Ranger Mega Zord or a bunch of the smaller actionfigures hahah. After all this "dilema" is not a real problem watches are the last thing in the world I am worried about in terms of importance for my life there are way more crucial things like your health and your mental well being that should take first priority but that is a topic for another day ๐Ÿ˜‰ The more time I do think about it and the "odler" I get in my watch collecting journey though the more I feel like having fewer pieces with more memories attatched to them is actually the way to go. I currently own around 12 pieces and I could happily sell like 8 of them because if I did look down on my wrist last year it would have been exclusively 2 pieces I really like and that have proven to be exceptional daily pieces. These include my Tudor Pelagos 39 (which I upgraded to an Tudor FXD this christmas) and my new Explorer 2. I got more enjoyment by owning these watches than I did with any other in my collection just because they are so reliable and practical and I do not think a second about which watch I am gonna wear on a daily basis cause these two are just amazing. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

So with what verdict did I leave my A.D. and with which conclusion did I end up at the end of the day. Well as I am writing this little post. I already picked the first watches I am gonna sell off to downsize the collection. Less is more and that holds very true to a little mechanical piece we attach more than just the monetary value to. Having fewer watches to me now means I got just a few pieces I can connect memories to which on the other hand means the few I own become infinetly more special to me which is what this hobby is all about. Finding something you find beautiful and enjoy so that you can connect memories and emotions to it to make it really special to you. ๐Ÿป

Stay safe guys!

Which watches are you letting go? I've always thought less than 6 pieces in a collection is no good for me because I like to have at least 2 options for every occasion. I also think more than 12 is just too much for me to enjoy and give the wrist time each piece deserves.

Simon, your dilemma ( first world problem ) is something I can very much relate with. I had a larger collection a few years ago and I felt under pressure to try and give each watch wrist time. Because I had spent hard earned money on each watch I felt guilty if I didnโ€™t wear one of them for a period of time , it really took the fun out of owning a collection . I made the decision to sell and move some of the watches and focus on what I really wanted and would enjoy wearing often . This lead me to buying my grail watch , a yellow gold day date 40. The watch means a lot to me and purchasing it coincided with a big life event which makes it extra special. My collection sits at 5 and a beater , Iโ€™m very content with this number and find myself enjoying all the watches with regular wear. As people we are all different and some prefer and enjoy a small rounded collection and some like a large and varied selection of watches to choose from . โœŒ๏ธ

Hey thank you for those kind words and your take on the subject ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป First of all gorgeous collection you got there! 5 pieces to me sounds so peaceful and your choices for the given are so smart really covering a wide range of occasions ๐Ÿ˜ I totally agree with you and I think my collection will only benefit from downsizing it a bit maybe going from 12 to 6 would be a good start but I think you hooked me with the idea of 5 ๐Ÿ˜‰ Again thank you for your comment really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Greetings Simon

Mainly the ones I dont wear too often even if I really like them but some I just never wear. My Explorer 2 and the Tudor Pelagos just made a lot of watches obsolite for me because I dont like to make compromises in an area if I know I got a better choice ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป So yeah given the usecase I tend to choose one watch who gets assigned the โ€žjobโ€œ and just works in that given scenario or occasion I am in ๐Ÿ˜‰
