The One

This is one that means the most to me. This was a gift from my parents on my 16th birthday. Since then I’ve worn it at every major moment of my life. Graduations, weddings, christenings, funerals. It’s become a “special occasion” watch. It’s showing it’s age with scratches and wear. In its day it was advanced being made of titanium, despite the quartz movement, mineral crystal and pressed clasp. Now you can pick one up for less then $200 (meaning it’s last service cost 60% of its value). But to me it’s priceless and irreplaceable. And that’s a good message I think. The ones that mean the most don’t need to be six figures, or be immediately noticeable to anyone else. If it’s important to you then that’s all that matters.

Well said. I couldn’t agree more.

The memories are what make the watch long term. I feel the same as you about my grandfather’s Timex. I have spent more than 6 times what it would cost to buy another example to keep his running and as original as possible. The only thing I have replaced is the bracelet and that my watch maker found a NOS example of the one it came with/the one he used. I have that old bracelet and will keep it even though it is broken.

I find it interesting that the bracelet forms a "W" shape. That's very clever.

This looks like the old Tag SEL series. Funny enough my dad gave me a midsize two tone SEL when I was 16 as well.

Very cool 😎

Definitely amongst the most precious Timepieces on WatchCrunch.

100% agree and love to hear this kind of stories. One of the thing I planned when I started collecting is to make sure my kids will get one of my watches that are somehow linked to my memories with them. Thanks for sharing!

I agree entirely. My most important watches I’ve owned for many years are by-far more personally valuable than other watches I own (but still treasure) that would not be able to fetch more than a few bucks at this point on any given marketplace.

Oh cool. Yeah the bracelet does resemble the Tag link series that came a few years later.
