From One Birthday to Another: The Romantic Journey of the Cartier Santos

There's a certain magic that comes with owning a vintage watch, especially one with as much history and character as my Cartier Santos from 1982. This watch is a true gem, with its stunning combination of gold and steel, its elegant design, and its flawless precision. But what makes it truly special is the story behind how it came into my possession.

For two long years, I searched high and low for the perfect vintage Cartier Santos - one in immaculate condition that had been cared for and cherished over the years. Finally, one day, a gentleman in the UK contacted me, offering me the very watch I had been looking for. After going back and forth, It had been revealed to me that this watch was his 21st birthday gift, and he had barely worn it after all this time. The Carreé was in perfect condition, just as I had always dreamed it would be.

To think that 41 years after this Santos was sold at the boutique, it was now being bought by me for my 22nd birthday, it was as if fate had brought us together. As I hold the watch in my hands and admire its stunning combination of industrial design and pure elegance, I am struck by the fact that it has come full circle - from being a treasured gift to one person, to becoming a cherished possession of another, years later. It's a beautiful reminder of the passage of time and the enduring beauty of objects that are crafted with care and precision.

Every time I wear this watch, I am filled with a sense of wonder and delight. I feel as though I am connected to a bygone era, to the early days of aviation and the daring spirit of the man who inspired the watch's design, Alberto Santos-Dumont. But beyond its historical significance, this watch is a testament to the Maison Cartier's legacy of exquisite craftsmanship and innovation.

In many ways, this watch is a piece of art as much as it is a timepiece. The gold and steel combination creates a sense of balance and harmony, while the sleek, curved lines of the case and the elegant Roman numerals on the dial evoke a sense of timeless sophistication.

Owning this watch is not just a pleasure, but a privilege. It's a reminder of the enduring beauty of well-crafted objects, and the power of stories and history to inspire us and connect us to something greater than ourselves. Every time I wear this watch, I am reminded of the generosity of the man who cared for it before me, and of the endless possibility that lies ahead. It's a true treasure, one that I will cherish for years to come.

Great story. It's gone to a good home.

There's something about a Cartier, they do have a magnetic attraction. I bought my Tank Francaise for my 21st birthday. An elegant, diminutive watch, which went completely against the grain of watch taste at the time.

I still have it, and I've tried to sell it so many times but always stopped myself. 20+ years later I still wear it and love it.

Enjoy you Santos for decades to come.
