New Seiko watch day

Hi,

New watch day and thought I would share.

I have been swaying about whether to buy a Seiko MarineMaster for some time now but until recently have not taken the proverbial 300 metre plunge.

Have reviewed the heck out of Google and any other sources I could find in a bid to make up my mind one way or another.I had heard all the horror stories about size, the movement, the supplied metal bracelet, works only on certain wrist sizes etc and to be fair this undoubtedly put me off a little, but as with anything online … reviews, impressions and comments are very personal and likewise my thoughts will be too.

Only been a few hours but my takeaway so far is a fantastic looking watch and really well put together in a solid, tough, don’t mess with me kind of way. The finishing seems exceptional and I can’t find any issues, niggles or problems cosmetically.

Size wise my wrist is a little over 6 and a half inches and I find it very pleasing worn. Yes it has a bit of heft to it ( nothing tremendously unwieldy) and it is a deep watch which I was worried about but honestly as other reviewers have said it seems to wear smaller than its dimensions would suggest. The side Zaratsu polishing has something to do with this as it provides an optical illusion somewhat in that it reflects perfectly on either side your skin and tricks your mind into believing the size is smaller.

I have it on the supplied rubber strap and it is a good fit. I do have a crafter blue rubber one coming as these seem to garner great reviews so will see.(reviews again!)

I’m not generally a slave to a movements precision. I buy watches to wear and use but I will keep a track on what I am finding.

So takeaway from me so far..good looking watch which belies its dimensions and is very comfy. I have had the watch on for several hours now and I can’t say the heft has been noticeable, the watch very much fading into the background.

Take it easy everyone

Scott

had mine about 6 years now.

the crafter blue straps are great - i have a couple - black & orange.

seiko uk service them these days so no worries there moving forward. mine runs a slightly slow these days but is worn in intermittently rotation so no worries really.

Thanks for the feedback

That’s good to know about Seiko UK and servicing

Early days but think this is a keeper.

I have heard of folks buying, selling and re buying time and again.

Beautiful watch. I love the mirror- polished flanks of the higher-end Marinemasters. The Seiko MM200 LX is one of my dream watches

When I see the title "New Seiko watch day" it's always going to get my attention, and I can't wait to see what someone's new Seiko will be. Thank you for showing it.

I know there are downsides to everything, but I'm looking really hard to find one here. This watch looks sensational on your arm. I like the supplied strap too, I've seen lots of complaints about Seiko factory straps.

This watch should hold up over the years really well too. I have 13 Seikos and they are all either Seiko 5s or from the Essentials line. I don't baby them either, but I also don't bash them, and they've all held up well despite a couple of accidents. So your new watch from the high end will (probably) outlive us all.
