Is a "homage" watch ever acceptable?

Most of us reading the heading are automatically thinking HECK NO or maybe some other descriptive/explicit terminology.  What I am curious to find out is what your thoughts are relating to these homage watches as a trial run relating to sizing, fit etc.  Of course they are never a replacement for the real thing, but I am curious about thoughts as to whether they are ever okay.

No, homie!  Homage watches are always okay.  Why wouldn't they be?  This is the beauty of the market - there's always something for everyone.  I mean, there are tons of things I like that other people would find absolutely disgusting and abhorrent, but thank god I get to buy those things and enjoy them.  (Durian, anyone?)  What makes this world such a wonderful, amazing place is that capitalism has (mostly?) won out, and as a result, people will produce goods and services of all varieties, so long as there are people who will pay for those goods and services.

I mean, I think vanilla ice cream is absolutely horrific and is never acceptable.  And, yet, weirdly enough, people keep buying it over chocolate ice cream.  Disgusting.

Are you referring to fakes?

Homages are a whole different thing, although there are some WIS who lump them together.

Homage watches are one thing - fakes/counterfeit watches are another. Homage typically follow style with minor adjustments from the original to differentiate them from the original. Fakes are just wrong on all levels.

I am okay with homage watches, with that said i seldom have them in collection.

I mean, i think we have to first define what is an homage watch. Theres a line between homages, copycats, straight out fakes.

Fashion products rarely if ever get patented or copyrighted, because it takes to long to do and they might risk getting their designs stolen before they even get to a see a penny for their effort. So if nobody protects their designs they are up for grabbing tweaking, twisting and straight up copying them. Things like brand names and logo, those are protected IP, so it is a big no-no to replicate. In short homages are ok as long as they don't steal logos or brand names, that makes them counterfeit which is illegal and actually kind of wrong.

I love homage watches. They allow me to buy a decent watch at a fair price. I am not particularly worried about  what they pay homage to. I just think they are good value, often well made and look good, too.

Homage watches are available in most price categories. Lots of high end watches look very similar to each other.

I have eaten durian a couple of times but wouldn't choose to again. Homage durian is no better or worse than the real thing. A durian watch might be a tasty item, though.
